Maxmillion Dunbar
hangs out in the vague territory between slow-motion house with a hip-hop feeling or dubby and dubious music. "Polo" has cautiously been modified, fine-tuned and extended for its label home. The only kid able to throw down the remix gauntlet is
Phillip Lauer
(
Arto Mwambe
,
Brontosaurus
, etc.), who turns "Polo" into one of his trademark, sluggish bass line-barrage tracks with falsetto synths and sharp snares. Get your vogue brogue out.

Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
RAMP 026EP
"Maryland resident Maxmillion Dunbar caught our attention on a desperately limited 7" last year on his own Future Times imprint. Swerving the current contrived reference points, B-Boy Max forges his own path mixing a kaleidoscope of boogie, electro, hip hop & analog soul. Max's first EP for Ramp starts with 'Bare Feet' clipping sparse soul loops with epic flourishes, 'Loveloop/Socket Bonus' marrying cascading synths and 808's, 'Wouldn't Matter' chops up a relentless boogie loops and epic disco strings, and 'WAVs' draws the EP to a close with '80s beat boxes and ramshackle synth lines."

"After his
Bare Feet
EP dropped out of the blue, Max has been delivering track after track to the RAMP offices. '
Cool Water
is a straight up trip through me. 'Pretty Please' is on some boogie party fly shit, and the rest of the tracks sort of travel down from there like some DNA, just unraveling all the zones that I go into; 'Sno Mega' is for rollerskates, 'Way Down' is an earth tone blast, 'Girls Dream' is slow ocean disco, 'Rhythm track For Rashied Ali' is a house slam in honor of the illest drummer ever, 'Lemon & Lime' is what happened when I got really into this one Polygon Window song this year. 'Original Soundtrack Flutes' is my new age anthem. And 'Breathe What U Say' lays it all out at the end like some Brian Eno + Cluster meets T-Pain vibe ? just layers and layers of me breathing into a vocoder, dripping away."
