Title: Stadsvandringar
Label: ASTRALWERKS
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: ASW 40365CD
"The first ever U.S. release of Dungen's 2002 album Stadsvandringar. Like kindred spirits A Band Of Bees and Olivia Tremor Control, Dungen assimilate the most thrilling elements of classic '60s and '70s psych-rock and re-imagine it with a contemporary edge. This is the first time Stadsvandringar has been released anywhere outside of Sweden."

Title: Skit I Altt
Label: MEXICAN SUMMER
Format: LP
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: MEX 061LP
Domestic vinyl version on pink vinyl with full-color printed inner sleeve. Hand-numbered edition of 3000. "In what feels like a very short decade, Sweden's Dungen has mutated at a furious pace. Longtime critical darlings, Dungen have outdone themselves again on their fifth LP. While the album is stuffed with concise songs (nothing running beyond five minutes) there are already candidates aplenty here for Dungen's live blotter-fueled sonic maelstroms. ''Hogdalstoppen' (named for a massive junkyard near Ejstes' flat) is already a massive instrumental track that we've started expanding between 5 and 15 minutes,' Ejstes says. Perhaps the instrumental 'Blandband' (trans. 'Mixtape') exemplifies the Dungen philosophy best. A mélange of bright piano chords, snaking lead guitar, and weightless woodwinds, it twists and turns like a forest path. The song was inspired, says Ejstes, 'by a friend made me a cassette recently and I missed that antiquated way of listening. I like finding out about music fast but at the same time, I like listening to whole albums. I conceive Dungen music in that same way: side one, side two, a journey.' Enjoy the trip."

Title: Tio Bitar
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $25.50
Catalog #: SUBL 019LP
Repressing of the Swedish vinyl version of the fourth full-length release from Sweden's Dungen (CD is on Kemado in the U.S.). Housed in a gatefold sleeve of silver foil cardboard. Since releasing Ta Det Lugnt in 2004, the profile of Swedish psychedelic rockers Dungen has grown at an alarming rate, from a cult studio project into a worldwide musical phenomenon. And on Tio Bitar, we're hearing the end results of an outpouring of success and support -- one which has, for once, inspired the creative processes at hand to make something wholly new and original, yet remaining within the same sphere of emotions that fostered Dungen's three previous albums. Gustav Ejstes, Dungen's founder and principal member, made Tio Bitar (trans. "Ten Pieces"), a bracing display of psychedelic rock, presented with a bright, avid confidence largely by himself, with the assistance of guitarist Reine Fiske. Gustav wrote the songs, and played all of the instruments on his own, with Reine on many lead guitar and bass parts. Tracks like "Familj," "Så Blev Det Bestämt" and "Gör Det Nu" suggest a new, unburdened direction for the belabored concept of "jamming." Here, themes in the melodies, borrowing some of their phrasings but spinning off into lucid counterpart, are all anchored by the bass, drums, and organ. When vocals -- as on past efforts, sung entirely in Swedish, or a flute appear, they're diverging out to a third melody, still safely within the frame, in tune with each part. In other words, this is a more streamlined Dungen, all bombast and psych-rock madness whittled down to the bare essentials. Complex arrangements find the songs boiling over with dozens of ideas, stitched together with studio flash, yet played so soulfully and economically, that there's no evidence of the kind of smug, cynical hamminess that's been hurting rock music since the early '70s. Nor is it the other extreme; no wide-eyed innocence and eagerness to please. Tio Bitar follows world tours and enthusiastic responses from the press and public, and answers the praise with yet another set of cohesive, adventurous rock songs that can't sit still, possessing the vision and focus to distance itself from distraction and obvious influences. "Dungen is not retro," Gustav states. "Dungen is contemporary. Contemporary because it consists of elements from both then and now."

Title: 4
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $25.50
Catalog #: SUBL 030LP
This is the limited and more expensive clear-vinyl Swedish edition of Dungen's fourth studio album (released on CD & LP in the U.S. via Kemado), extending the acclaimed Swedish outfit's sound past psychedelia into something far more rare. Moving beyond mere stylistic concerns, 4 finds Gustav Ejstes' focus on the extremes of Dungen's sound separating into two entities. Blazing, raw guitar workouts have their own time and place, but now, so do stirringly orchestrated, jazz-cooled compositions with cinematic undertones. Bandleader Gustav Ejstes has made many allusions to his creative process as it likens to that of a hip-hop producer. On 4, that process is more evident than ever, both in the feel of each piece, and in the sense of intuition and control within the members of the group. New drummer Johan Holmegard joins guitarist Reine Fiske and bassist Mattias Gustavsson, while Ejstes steps away from guitar for the entire album, focusing on the piano as his lead instrument. Together, they have honed a classic and seamless sound, constructed with lavish studio flourishes and moving, narrative arrangements, and yet able to toughen up to tear veins of fierce blues-psych instrumentals up from the surface. The ten tracks on 4 comprise Dungen's most concentrated effort to date, beats surging forth and atmospheres changing as their sound continues to evolve. Every song here runs under five minutes, pushing the group to introduce confident melodies and arresting ambiance in tighter frameworks. Gauging from the results, this challenge has done them well. Included in this set are live favorite "Mina Damer Och Fasaner," excerpts from a wild psychedelic jam session entitled "Samtidigt," and a storming, Northern Soul-influenced instrumental entitled "Fredag." These stand tall with some of the most fully-realized moments of Dungen's career; percolating prog-pop groover "Det Tar Tid" and eloquent opener "Satt At Se." With a penchant for lush pop portraits, and laced with orange sunshine guitar flash, 4 turns a page in Dungen's sound and story.

Title: Skit I Allt
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: SUBL 076LP
Limited edition 1,200 copies deluxe vinyl LP of Dungen's sixth studio album (also released on CD & LP in the U.S. via Mexican Summer). This is the Swedish vinyl version, on the band's original label, and pressed on a red-colored vinyl (different than the U.S. edition), with a full-color printed inner sleeve. Sweden's Dungen sweetly return with a collection of gorgeous, dream-like melodies, psychedelic stonkers and graceful, jazz-filled polyrhythms. For main man/producer/arranger/singer Gustav Ejstes, Skit I Allt means "Don't give a shit, forget about it, just go ahead and do it. A friend said: 'Skit I Allt; fuck it, do as you want, time is passing and it's changing, forget fears and hang-ups, we are small and everything is pretty insignificant on the whole. How will it be? What shall we do? We often worry so much unnecessarily. Skit i allt, it's happening now.'" In what feels like a very short decade, Sweden's Dungen has mutated at a furious pace, and Gustav Ejstes' lone constant has been change. At ease with effervescent pop, third-eye popping psychedelia, heavy rock, spider-web folk and breezy jazz, Dungen's dynamism astounds throughout Skit I Allt. Rather than remain only Ejstes' studio vision, Dungen is a muscular full band, now. Guitarist Reine Fiske, bassist Mattias Gustavsson, and drummer Johan Holmegard are fully integrated into Ejstes' vision of Dungen. Dungen debuted in 2001 with an eponymous album of long psilocybic tracks and aural tomfoolery. The next year's Stadsvandringar found Ejstes coming to grips with the language of rock before the zeitgeist-grabbing third album, Ta Det Lugt (SUBL 017LP) ignited the blogosphere so that it glowed like the aurora borealis. Not content to revel in such accolades, Tio Bitar (SUBL 019LP) flashed the band's pop smarts as well as their incandescent freak-outs while 4 (SUBL 030LP) put the band's cohesiveness on display, at once gorgeous and biting. This album is the one that gathers everything they've done and learned, bringing it all together into an impressive whole.

Title: Ta Det Lugnt
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: 3LP BOX
Price: $70.00
Catalog #: SUBL 083LP
Subliminal Sounds finally presents the complete legendary Ta Det Lugnt album as a limited deluxe box-set with 2 LPs, a bonus 12" EP Tyst Minut and a full-sized poster. The album is presented here for the first time with the correct vinyl mastering. The original, and previously only available 2004 vinyl LP pressing, was incorrectly manufactured from digital master instead of analog, had several defects and didn't sound at all as intended. We have now gone back to the original vinyl master and made a correct and superior vinyl pressing so you can hear the analog sound as originally intended. Limited edition of 1,000 copies only. The most astounding 2004 breakthrough album from Sweden's Dungen; a modern classic psychedelic album. The title translates roughly into English as "Take It Easy" which kind of perfectly sums up Dungen's sound. It's immediate and you want to get involved, but there's also such a laid-back, hippy vibe to the whole thing. Ta Det Lugnt is a beautiful musical trip out into the Swedish forests and back again.
