Artist: DYGAS, MARGARET
Title: Day After
Label: CONTEXTERRIOR (NETHERLANDS)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: CNTXT 018EP
"Margaret Dygas makes her production debut here on Contexterrior with three cuts of raw underground electronic music. On this EP, she brings her deep knowledge of those darker dancefloor moments to the studio, and from the studio we put it in your hands. These tracks are seriously deep and dubby; a reflection of how she plays. A1: 'His Name Is Ken': the vibe here is experimental and heavy on the dub, ambient melodies fade into the picture and a bassline jangles in the background. B1: Day After': The day after is usually something we'd rather forget, or spend in bed. However, in Margaret's case, it is a deep and melodic piece. B2: 'No Now': here things are taken down a notch once again, or perhaps not down, but to the left (field)."

Title: See You Around
Label: NON STANDARD PRODUCTIONS (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: NSP 005EP
"See You Around is the second vinyl release by Margaret Dygas and first on Non Standard Productions. This 12" is a warm combination of healthy and mellow yet solid beats combined with rough, shredded guitars. You'll be hearing round edges as much as square, bubbled sounds and psychedelic synths traveling through out both tracks. Tobias Freund was responsible for the production and the additional analog mixdown treatments. All in all, a record that follows the idea of Non Standard Productions."

With a sound born in New York, ripened in London and refined in Berlin, Margaret Dygas is an artist whose sound possesses a true international resonance. Born and raised in Poland, at age 11 Margaret and her family moved to Germany, before finally relocating to San Jose, California. Surrounded by old school hip-hop as a teenager, her discovery of house music came in the early '90s, following a move to New York in order to study fashion at the renowned Fashion Institute of Technology. Captivated by the British dance scene, Margaret moved to London in the summer of 1999. Becoming a regular fixture on London's electronic music scene, Margaret went on to play clubs that included Fabric, The End and Herbal, holding a residency at AKA for Underline's label night. It was following her move to Berlin that Margaret started producing and writing her own music. After her debut release, Day After (for Jay Haze's label Contexterrior), Margaret followed with the See You Around EP, released in 2008 on Non Standard Productions and the Invisible Circles 12" for Perlon (2009). 2010 marked the release of Margaret's first full-length album How Do You Do (PSCD 001CD). Released on Japan's Power Shovel Audio, the album was inspired by the book Peoplewatching, a guide to body language by British zoologist Desmond Morris. Miss Dygas goes next level for Perlon with six songs in 46 minutes.

Title: How Do You Do
Label: POWER SHOVEL AUDIO (JAPAN)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PSCD 001CD
Born in Poland and raised in America, Margaret Dygas releases her first album for Power Shovel Audio. How Do You Do is an imaginative soundtrack for all the things that Dygas loves, inspired by a book she read called Peoplewatching. The album follows somewhat the narrative of a book, combining elements from her own life to create unique characteristics in each track. She was also inspired by ecological awareness and the love for animals. Power Shovel Audio also asked Dygas to take as many photographs as possible in order to create a narrative for the record, adding another layer to the storytelling principle of How Do You Do, which is packaged inside a 36-page booklet with snapshots taken by the artist. Margaret is now one of the most important female artists in the world of electronic music (having worked with the likes of Mika Vainio, Carsten Nicolai, and Ryuichi Sakamoto), producing delicate, avant garde techno works that are sublime and thought-provoking.
