Soul Fire
Label:
DESTRUCTIVE RECORDINGS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
DST 004EP
"Destructive Recordings present their fourth instalment of razor edged dubstep, featuring a new addition to the Destructive stable: Elemental, an artist who has recently been propelled to the forefront of the dubstep/breakstep scene. His unique, break-driven, yet spacious take on the sound has quickly gained momentum on the underground circuit. Here are two of his seminal tracks that have been battering speakers for a while now. 'Soul Fire' is in our opinion, Elementals' signature track, depicting his own unique brand of dubstep. Stone cold drums and weighty, distorted bottom end are the main ingredients in this dancefloor classic. The core of this track is evidently very dub influenced, injected with an energy that almost contradicts itself, which is why this track is so infectious. An organic vibe that leaves you with no choice but to shake your booty. Meanwhile, on the flip: 'Tribute' is a hard, dirt ridden breakstep roller that has torn many a dancefloor to bits. Elementals' use of spacious, yet earth-shattering drums are executed with surgical precision, with an avalanche of piercing, distorted bass."

HALO 005EP
"At the forefront of the dubstep underground is Halo Beats, the label operated by the seminal and subversive Slaughter Mob; underground garage mainstays and dubstep scene stalwarts. With its fifth release, Halo Beats have firmly established themselves as leaders of the UK underground cutting edge. On this release, North London-based producer Elemental brings two stone-cold killers to the table. 'Desert Storm' sees Elemental toying with off kilter electronics and dabbling with almost psychedelic stabs and babbling basslines. Sonically the track nods to Elemental's DNB roots while simultaneously being totally different than that, as well as the current crop of dubstep output. The track builds and breaks in a delicate frenzy of self-contained progression, sure to engage dancefloors and home listeners alike."

Deep Under
Label:
HOTFLUSH RECORDINGS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
HF 011EP
"Elemental comes from a breaks background, with a release with Mutiny on Cyberfunk Records to his name. But last year he caught the dubstep bug and HF011 bears the fruits of his subsequent labours. Drawing on diverse influences from techno to broken beat and following the Hotflush tradition of contrasting tracks on a 12", we think this release is one of the best yet. 'Deep Under' rolls like a runaway train. Cascading half-step beats, thundering bass and techno stabs churn in the melting pot with this one, resulting in a pounding groove capable of beating any dancefloor into submission. 'Sparkle' flips the script. Keeping hold of the sub bass vibe, Elemental takes a more laid back approach on this, with shimmering pads and a surreal plucked riff that flutters in and out of your consciousness."

brings some major, dirty break-step action to the floor; phat-ass, squelchy, distorted , squashed low-end and rollin' beats make for two dark and heavy drops. He's had tracks appear alongside
Scuba
and
Caspa & Rusko
. Bristol's Reduction label brings a prime slice of local talent from a city positively teeming with innovative music.

"Elemental's debut LP
Messages From The Void
is a collection of work from the last four years, spanning a range of styles, made using a combination of new and old technologies, including Elemental's beloved modular synthesizer. He is proud to be able to present it to the world -- a favour returned for all of the amazing music that has touched him throughout his years as a music listener and raver. Elemental's fresh take on the dubstep sound has got both scene stalwarts and eclectic tastemakers singing his praises. Blending components of acid house, Detroit techno, 'golden age' drum & bass, vintage dubwise and African rhythm, his sound is rich in texture and musical heritage, yet remains eminently danceable. The North London based producer -- Adam Wilson to his friends -- started dabbling with production in 1994 with a Roland D5 and Atari ST while he was still at school. Soon after he invested in an Akai S2000 sampler, bought a PC, and the rest, as they say, is history. In the nineties he predominantly focused on making drum and bass and experimental electronica, eventually putting out his first drum and bass release as a white label off his own back. A few years later, together with schoolmate Dario Swade, they formed the breakbeat garage duo Elemental & 3D, releasing on their own label Runtime Records in 2002. A couple of years later after some time abroad, Elemental caught the likes of Search & Destroy on Rinse FM and instantly found the sound he had been looking for: dark, heavy, syncopated beats and bass. Since 2004, Elemental has been focused on bringing his newly developed sound to the masses. Combining dubbed out dirty bass lines with hypnotizing rhythms, he has released on labels such as Destructive, Hotflush, Pitch Black, Halo Beats, and his own imprint Runtime, with his seminal track 'Soulfire' one of the highlights on Tayo's
Fabriclive
mix CD. He was officially the first person to do a live dubstep performance, mixing up and dubbing components of his productions using Ableton Live to rapturous audiences across the world: no set is ever the same twice."

"Here's a trio of fresh tasty beats to get you in the mood for Elemental's forthcoming longplayer. 'Muff Beater' is more minimal than his usual fare, hollow woodblock percussion and tight drum flourishes gathering pace until the bubble bass drops on this funky little bouncer. 'Piston' is harder by comparison, starting off with a tense sub workout that morphs into a staggering breaky roller with grinding bass layered underneath the whining mids. 'Strange Brew', a collaboration with Lohan of Search and Destroy, finishes up with slow-mo drums sliding over tubular subs, throwback rave stabs and mouthwatering citrus synths."
