"Hanin Elias is the founder member of Atari Teenage Riot, and their lead singer. Besides co-writing many ATR songs with Alec Empire, she has been recording her own music for several years. This album collects together tracks ranging from 1995's 'Outback' through to 'In Flames', recorded late last year. Hanin rebelled against an oppressive upbringing in Syria, where women have a thoroughly subservient role to men. Her parents had her life mapped out for her, continually emphasizing the necessity of being a virgin until marriage and taking her to see cheering crowds at public hangings as part of her education. The album In Flames is yet another tangential approach to Digital Hardcore. A surprising range of styles, moving through the almost indie pop of the title track, the distorted orchestral sweeps of 'One Two', the breakbeat hardcore of 'Nizza', and the playful 'Tapes One and Two'."

"A new EP from DHR featuring an eclectic selection of remixes, showing a new perspective to Hanin Elias. Wiija's Le Tigre (Kathleen Hanna & Johanna Fateman)'s take on 'Girl Serial Killer' mixes Hanin's sinister vocals with a zinging guitar/keyboard/Casio affair, transforming the song into a rather bizarre pop hit. Nic Endo's 'Slaves' remix is utterly different, a total head fuck. Less 'White Heat', more She Satellites, it's a wash of noise and sex. The two 'In Flames' remixes are not poles apart, both of them transforming their respective song into a far colder picture. While CDB mixes his dark, wild breaks, Audiowhore's is like sitting in a freezer with Hanin whispering through the door. Hanayo's 'Girl Serial Killer' remix is just plain weird, and raises the anxiety pitch like Suicide's 'Frankfurt Teardrop' -- where do these ideas come from?"
