Title:
Bionik
Label:
COCOON (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
COR 015CD
This is the third full-length release from Bonn-based DJ, producer and park ranger,
Dominik Eulberg
, following his highly-acclaimed ode to field-recording,
Heimische Gefilde
. Like no one else, Eulberg combines sound and art research with solid and straight productions, attracting fans from all fields such as techno, house and even trance. The young man from the Westerwald alternates between straight-in-your-face humor and profundity, however, his secret seems to be rooted in tradition while still taking risks. Big tunes like "Bionik" or his remixes of "Geht's Noch?" and "Der Mückenschwarm" are harkened to on this release, as well as clacking electro tracks and sound research experiments. Eulberg's productions emerge from various approaches, never sounding heavy or over-produced, but also not sounding like another overly-simplistic minimal statement.
Bionik
is immediate and danceable -- real home-grown, friendly stuff. Similar to his DJ sets, he takes us on a journey into his world, his studio, his microcosm, and one understands why he opens up his home to us, and invites us to sit down and stay while.

MISCH 001CD
"As if the name MischWald is unique enough, the involved label has invited the forest ranger Dominik Eulberg personally to join the sessions of forest societies. Dominik created a big name for himself in the music scene with numerous releases thru Cocoon Rec. and Traumschallplatten, even his remix work for DJ Hell, Tiefschwarz and Roman Flügel speaks for itself. Now the time has come to prove his skills as a DJ, and again he surprises with unusual sounds far away from the lush greens. With his individual style he hijacks the listener out of the daily routine and takes him into the unsophisticatedness of the forest -- an acoustic experience: listen, dive in and awake in nature." Basstolpel + Basstolpel
Label:
RAUM MUSIK (GERMANY)
Format:

Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
RAUM 043EP
"Dominik Eulberg was already featured with his track 'Marylin' on our last split EP (musik038). Since then he left his fingerprints on many other labels and we are happy to release his first own single on our label. 'Basstölpel' is not only the driving technotune on the a-side of this record, it is also a native German bird, as we learned from Dominik. If you would try to translate the meaning of 'Basstölpel', it'll be something like 'bassfool'. Dominik is studying biology and is also a big friend of all kinds of animals. On the b-side he gets remix support from no one else than MusikKrause's own Robag Wruhme who doesn't need to be introduced here any further. He creates a more deeper, majestic mix who seems to be determined for the late morning hours and also fits perfectly to our label profile. We wish you a pleasant flight with the 'Basstölpel'."

"While a lot of his tracks show his big passion for massive sounds and melodies, his records for us are pointing out another facet of his music. The sounds are more reduced, but always combined with just the right amount of 'rave.' Choosing the titles for his music is another big passion of Dominik and names like 'Die Wildschweinsuhle' (which actually is the place where wild boars come to drink) and 'Mit Wurzelhaar und Tiergesicht,' named after a quotation from famous German actor Klaus Kinski promise quite a lot."

Gasthof zum Satten Bass
Label:
TRAPEZ (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
TRAPEZ LTD028
"The concept of releasing an acid record which was not old school but rather modern has lead to these two mixes of Gasthof 'Zum Satten Bass'. Translated it means: 'Sated Bass Inn', certainly emphasizing the importance of the bassline in this project. The track is an acid track for sure, but not really a track, rather does it break with the formula of a 'track' with it's mono attitude, creating a stomping stereo-frenetic, colorful picture of acid music. Adventurous as he has been on the mother label Traum, the Trapez style of riding the basslines and clubbing till dawn is planted in the project of Gasthof 'Zum Satten Bass', leading to mad non aggressive but stomping trip, escalating in a wonderful post-Detroit bassline! A different Dominik Eulberg, but the most clubby Eulberg seen so far."

TRAUM 016CD
2004 release, repressed. "The newcomer Dominik Eulberg (who is not really a newcomer since he has released records since 1995) has had his big hit on Traum with 'Die Rotbuchunken vom Tegernsee' which has lead to international recognition in 2004. Very similar in style and dynamic he has created soon after his EP:
Flora und Fauna
that transports the same spirit alongside 7 new tracks on the double LP and 10 on the CD. Did he introduce the fusion of nature sounds with digital programming and analog techno soul on his EP, the album explicitly highlights exactly this quality to the extreme, featuring explanations in word on the cover. The unique quality is once again, the stream of music, where there is no interruption, but the breaks of intense silence and melodic cascades. You can be sure the return of techno finest qualities then is not far away, when he crashes back into the beat, quite happily, like a child. 'Die Trottellummen von Helgoland' is already considered a direct follow up to the 'Klangteppichverleger Wolle' of his 'Rotbauchunken' 12" and is played amongst other tracks by DJs such as Sven Väth, Riccardo Villalobos, André Galuzzi and others. Others are the brilliant 'Der Zug der Kraniche' which reminds of early British ambient music of the 90ies as well as several others. He defines club music with a teaser appeal introducing new sounds by the minute. So we might have a new genre here: teaser techno! The spectrum of the album is by any means a real album not a mere collection of tracks. The CD version contains 3 extra tracks that even more highlight his approach to create a full album."

Heimische Gefilde
Label:
TRAUM (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
TRAUM 019CD
This is the second full-length release from Bonn-based DJ, producer and park ranger,
Dominik Eulberg
. For four years, Eulberg has been releasing on his home label, Traum. His previous nine 12"s, his
Nathan Fake
and
Cosmic Sandwich
remixes and, of course, his debut album
Flora & Fauna
have made him quite a hotbed of music, which has led to international praise for his unique brand of "wild life techno." The influence of nature (bird twitters, owl hoots, flowing water, crunching leaves) and other domestic sounds has made his music easy to identify with. "Heimische gefilde" means "native habitat," and this release takes the concept of his debut a step further and at the same time is a retrospective of his major hits. Tracks like "Die Rotbauchunken vom Tegernsee" and "Björn Borkenkäfer" are included here in unreleased edits that are even stronger than the originals, and as a bonus, previously vinyl-only track "Der Alpenstrandläufer von Spiekeroog" is now included on CD for the first time. Dominik Eulberg's music is much more than just a straight bass drum enriched with samples.
Heimische Gefilde
fully realizes Eulberg's pledge to mend contradictory parts of a whole: every track is presented, each animal is introduced by Dominik expressed in a lyrical, almost poetic form, ala old school National Geographic narrator. The album culminates in "Stelldichein des Westerwälder Vogelchores," a track that is definitely techno, but techno that is roused to life through its protagonists: 100% birds only, with no effects or additives. The first "acoustic" techno track ever. Synth-stabbed pure dance numbers are folded into introspective floor-throbbers so that each song is a wholly different animal all its own.
Heimische Gefilde
is danceable and natural: get out your field glasses.

"Dominik Eulberg is lecturer at the university of Bonn and works as a natural scientist, writes books about biotopes and last but not least writes techno music. He has released on Raum Music and has a forthcoming EP on Ware. The Traum release is untypical for the label as it is for himself. Hi Hats sound like the breaking of reed and Dr. Mabuse meets China girl. Altogether still straight techno, rocking till the end of dawn."

Price:

TRAUM 048EP
"The nature scientist Dominik Eulberg, scholar at the University of Bonn has sampled sounds of a biotope in which the Rotbauchunke lives, a frog with a beautiful red chest and as we believe with a strong organ. The result is a dodgey ride, unpredictable in any way, energetic but also heavy and slow grinding. The title track is in fact a grinding slow techno tune with lots of distractive integrated sounds, crazy drum breaks. A slammer! The B-side is contrary to the a-side again a quite melodic hypnotic ride. Enjoy."

"Part I of the two 'Flora & Fauna' remix records featuring Cologne artist André Kraml and the U.S. musician Justin Maxwell. Kramel being famous for his surreal techno and rocking house, releases regally on Firm under the name of Safari and Andrè Kraml. André is also one of Germany's leading sound designers. Producing the sound design for German and international movies. In his remix of 'der purpurrote sonnenuntergang am schilfsumsäumten bergsee' he uses nature sounds as well as pounding basslines and snippets of vocals (by Schad Privat; MC from Schaeben und Voss). His trippy sounds are used to created a journey in sound alongside stomping beats, slowly accelerating and escalating in a fantastic after-hour melody... somehow Spanish flavored. Justin Maxwell, who releases regularly on John Tejada's Palette Recordings, has remixed 'die invasion der taschenkrebse.' His remix results in a robotic but hypnotic and dark techno track. Maxwell's production drags the clubber into deep and deeper spheres. Justin introduces a tricky kind of funk in the middle of his track... it will not let you down."

TRAUM 063EP
"The second part of the two 'Flora & Fauna' remix 12"s features Hamburg's producer Remute, Hrdvsion from Switzerland and Adam Kroll from Cologne. The A-side features remute's remix of 'die trottelummen von helgoland' one of the big hits on the album being played by Sven Väth and others a lot. Remute, who is also known under Error Error on Italic, has produced a dramatic percussive track with strong cut ups. His robotic 'trottelummen' sounds and breaks... build up into a frantic sequencer-driven techno track in the end. Big floor techno! Hrdvsion's remix of 'das röhren der rotwildbrunft' is a strong deconstruction of the Dominik Eulberg original, cutting up every single channel and adding plugins in an Aphex Twin/Akufen manner. His track is an experiment with software including genre crossing elements. Hrdvsion has recorded several records on Plak, itiswhatitis and will record an Wagon Repair later this year. Last but not least Adam Kroll delivers a remix of 'kein nieten bei den herbseitlosen,' less cut-up and deconstructed than the original and more in the vein of his previous records on Traum."

TRAUM 067EP
"The follow up to Dominik Eulberg's fabulous
Rotbauchunken EP
and
Flora & Fauna
album on Traum evolves in this private homage to the world of butterflies. Dominik has produced a melodic A-side which works in favor of a classic dynamic build. Featuring drum patterns and small digits of sounds...finally opening up in a melodic string arrangement. The flipside 'Der Totenkopfschwärmer im Bienenstock' is a strong techno track with glitches and superb breaks. It evolves into a strong bassline driven track, that highlights the quality of modern techno sound design and arrangement!"

Der Buchdrucker
Label:
TRAUM (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
TRAUM 074EP
Germany-based Dominik Eulberg's two new tracks are not aggressive but euphoric open air slammers. They create goose pimples when the strings come into action. "Der Buchdrucker" is a party crasher in a big way, but a bit different from its predecessors -- more "Detroit," more dry, less playful. The record of course still holds sounds from the
Flora & Fauna
release for which Dominik is best-known. This time Dominik experimented with sounds from the forest, and the outcome is two very different tracks. The A-side track "Der Buchdrucker" works directly towards the exploding melody, and the B-side track "Björn Borkenkäfer" has a strong, classic Detroit influence.

TRAUM 077EP
Originally released on the 12"
Eine kleine Schmetterlings-Hommage
, the remixes of "Blueten sind dem Grossen Schillerfalter fremd" bear a big surprise as they feature
Adam Beyer
and
Renato Figoli
. Adam Beyer works his way through the jungle of
Dominik Eulberg
's "butterfly sounds" to incorporate them in his super-strong techno production. Mr. Figoli brings sounds together and then sneaks them into stripped down, bass-driven beats. With this record two different sides of techno clash in a wonderful way.

TRAUM (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
TRAUM 084EP
This is
Dominik Eulberg
's 12th release on Traum.
Limikolen
comes with two powerful tracks which mark a change in style for the techno-naturalist. The first track is the most stripped-down techno he has recorded in years. No melodies, no fancy sounds, no baroque architectural sound-shaping. This is the original sound of techno, with twisted sequences and vocal stabs that create a massive rocking beat. The second track is a heavy beat track with a gentle movement and deep Rhodes-like piano/organ sounds -- more hypnotic and peaceful in its approach.

This 12" comes with two remixes of
Dominik Eulberg
's recent hit track, "Die Grünschenkel Im Blauen Priel." One remix by
2000 And One
aka
Dylan Hermelijn
and the other by Traum's new mega-talented duo,
Super Flu
. 2000 And One elevates the sequence-triggered minimal track and strips it down to a long intro containing the original sequence, slowly introducing a funky, super groove and adding small sounds... a prime time mega mover! Super Flu's remix has the quality of a great
James Holden
track, with a dynamic that is constantly shifting -- always alert and rocking in all situations.

An herbarium is a collection of preserved plant specimens. On the sleeve of this 12" is a selection of
Dominik Eulberg
's favorite plants. Their fragile and neat features are as romantic as the tracks on this record, which are based on his finest melodic moments from his
Flora & Fauna
LP. "Kriechender Günsel" is a rhythmic techno groover that incorporates an
Aphex Twin
-like melody. "Kuckucks-Lichtnelke" is sparse and delicate, like a flower.

"'Mabuse', the title track on Ware 44, is a dark techno track with subtle power and hidden tenderness. B-side track 'They Say' could be characterized as minimal deep house, in which the short vocal snippets work as well as they would have back in 1994. 'Emotionsbottich' just wants to be minimal house reconciling beautiful melodies with disrupting sounds. 'Nebelfahrt' (journey through the fog) on
