Title:
Winter Women/Holy Ghost Language School
Label:
THRILL JOCKEY
Format:
2CD
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
THR 223CD
"Matthew Friedberger is one half of the The Fiery Furnaces brother and sister duo. This is Matt's first solo record and was originally released in 2006 by 859 Recordings. Thrill Jockey is proud to be bringing this double album back in a new package with updated artwork. Matt wrote and arranged all the music, played all the instruments (except for some drumming from John McEntire of Tortoise on a few tracks), and sings all the songs! The record was co-produced by Bill Skibbe at Key Club Recording at Benton Harbor, Michigan in March of 2006. The release has two full albums worth of music --
Winter Women
is a summer record of memorable, accessible, un-ironic, sixties inspired pop songs and
Holy Ghost Language School
is the musical equivalent of a stormy Murakami novel with the requisite sonic twists and turns which makes Matt's work so original. Both records will appeal to Furnaces fans but have a broader reach, especially
Winter Women
which is full of summer pop songs."

Meet Me In Miramas
Label:
THRILL JOCKEY
Format:
LP
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
THR 262B-LP
"Matthew Friedberger is one half of The Fiery Furnaces. Mr. Friedberger is at work on a book called
The Progressive Use of Popular Culture 1: Music
. In this work, about the same length as Jason Alexander's non-existent Acting without Acting, he attempts to advance-- or exaggerate -- the egalitarian potential of the irreducibly esoteric nature of the popular arts. He considers Rock-n-Roll, or Rock 'n Roll, or Rock, or This Thing, to be the Queen, or King, or Tyrant of Indeterminate Gender, of the Popular Arts. The word Tyrant in the last sentence is meant to include a sense of necessary illegitimacy."

Title:
Old Regimes
Label:
THRILL JOCKEY
Format:
LP
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
THR 262C-LP
"
Old Regimes
is the third album released in Matthew Friedberger's 2011 six album series
Solos
. Matt's vocals are present and a Lyon and Healy semi-grand harp was the only instrument used on
Old Regimes
. Matt is Rock-n-Roll musician and songwriter Matthew Friedberger, a Chicagoan. Mr. Friedberger considers R-n-R an anti-vocational sphere of endeavor, as is obvious from its epithet, so spelled, Q.E.D. Therefore a C.V. is drastically inappropriate."
