Title: O Amor, O Sirriso E A Flor
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: LP+CD
Price: $26.00
Catalog #: DOK 201LP
"Once upon a time Joćo Gilberto was just a reclusive and eccentric bohemian with a guitar, then came 'Chega De Saudade,' the song that launched both bossa nova and Joćo's career. Over the next three years (with the help of song writing masterminds Tom Jobim and Vicinius De Moraes), Joćo revolutionized Brazilian music with the three seminal albums that have become the bibles of bossa nova: Chega De Saudade (1959), O Amor, o Sorriso e a Flor (1960) and Joćo Gilberto (1961)."

Title: Chega de Saudade
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: LP+CD
Price: $26.00
Catalog #: DOK 205LP
"Originally released in 1959, Chega de Saudade is kind of like the book of Genesis of bossa nova. It influenced so many musicians both at home (Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben) and abroad (Stan Getz, Herbie Mann, Charlie Byrd) that almost every song on this album (from 'Desafinado' to 'Bim Bom') is now a standard. Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, who display their song writing talents here, would soon go on win a Grammy for 'The Girl From Ipanema.' Now with bonus CD of the album!" On 180 gram vinyl.

Title: Bossa Nova!
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: LP+CD
Price: $26.00
Catalog #: DOK 206LP
"Originally released in 1961 as Joao Gilberto, this historic album is one of the great cornerstones of bossa nova. Accompanied by Tom Jobim (who wrote such standards as 'Garota de Ipanema' and 'Desafinado') and organist Walter Wanderley (best known for his smooth Hammond playing and the 1966 hit 'Summer Samba'), Gilberto plays songs like 'Samba da minha terra' and 'O amor em paz,' both of which (along with most of the songs on this album) would soon become standards of the genre." On 180 gram vinyl with a CD of the entire album.

Title: Chega De Saudade
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $23.00
Catalog #: DOY 642LP
"It would probably not be an overstatement to call this the most influential Brazilian album of all time. Originally released in 1959, Chega de Saudade is the album cited as creating bossa nova, so to say that it lit a fire in the music world would be putting it mildly. It would be perhaps more accurate to say that it influenced so many musicians both at home (Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben, etc.) and abroad (Stan Getz, Herbie Mann, Charlie Byrd) that it effectively single-handedly changed the way people both made and listened to music, and put Brazilian artists on the map. Almost every song on this album has gone on to become a standard, and Gilberto, called 'O Mito,' is today, at age 79, truly a living legend. Here Gilberto collaborates with both Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, both legends in their own right. Moraes and Jobim would soon go on to write the song that won them a Grammy in 1965, 'The Girl From Ipanema.'"

Title: Joao Gilberto
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $23.00
Catalog #: MJJ 332LP
"Originally released in 1973, Joao Gilberto aka The White Album, is as a timeless classic of the genre and one of Joao's definitive masterpieces. Featuring only the minimalist drumming of NY jazz drummer Sonny Carr (and the backing vocals of 'Miucha', Gilberto's second wife and sister of Chico Buarque on the final track), Joao spins a delicate web of sound that from the first notes of Tom Jobim's anthem 'Aguas De Marco' has the listener dreaming of Bahia, even though the album was recorded in a New Jersey studio with electronic music pioneer Wendy Carlos at the controls. This is bossanova at its very best."
