Title:
Suspiria
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
PIC. DISC
Price:
$37.00
Catalog #:
AMS 011-PIC
"Probably the most scary soundtrack Goblin has ever written (don't listen to it when the lights are down!), apparently it seems that the score was composed before the film was ready, so that director Dario Argento had to make some changes to the movie script, in order to have the music perfectly suited! This legendary soundtrack combines elements of music and sound scary effects going far beyond traditional background scoring, becoming an integral part of the film. As critics say nowadays,
Suspiria
music 'is so perfectly integrated into the film, fares less well as a stand-alone item. All that pounding, howling, thumbing, and wheezing is enough to send chills down your spine even without the movie images (it is the perfect imaginary soundtrack), but not all of it could be called a pleasant listening experience (unless your idea of pleasant is having your nerves set on edge).' 300 copies limited pressing in beautiful picture disc."

Title:
Il Fantastico Viaggio Del Bagarozzo Mark
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$34.00
Catalog #:
AMS 012LP
"Another non-soundtrack album,
Il Fantastico Viaggio Del Bagarozzo Mark
, from 1978, was the only Goblin album entirely sung (in Italian), the others being instrumental only; it is a concept album about the 'fantastic journey of Mark, the cockroach.' This may sound quite funny and weird, but
Il Fantastico Viaggio
simply is a great prog album, surely the most symphonic of the Goblin production, it alternates the usual gloomy and scary Goblin sound with some nice acoustic interludes. Goblin also played some live dates to promote the LP, a rather strange thing for a group who didn't have a strong live activity at all! Never reissued on vinyl before, great sounding 180g high quality vinyl!" Gatefold sleeve. Last copies, deleted item.

Title:
Roller
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
PIC. DISC
Price:
$37.00
Catalog #:
AMS 017-PIC
"
Roller
was the second record for Goblin, originally released in 1976, just after the successful score of Profondo Rosso, and is one of the very few Goblin records that was not intended to be a soundtrack. By many considered their best effort, in
Roller
the band develops their dark, hypnotic and totally instrumental sound, but with an always vivacious and dynamic edge. The record also features new members Agostino Marangolo (from Flea) and Massimo Guarini. 300 copies limited pressing in beautiful picture disc."

Title:
Zombi
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$34.00
Catalog #:
AMS 031LP
"In exchange for Dario Argento's help on
Dawn of the Dead
, George Romero allowed Argento to release a different (more explicit) cut of the movie in Europe. This version was called
Zombi
. Instead of the library music score that Romero had used, Argento enlisted the help of his pals Goblin to record a new soundtrack. The result is a brilliant score; menacing, thrilling and totally suited to the movie. There's even a sleazy lounge-esque track 'Zombi (Supermarket).' Faithful replica of the original 1978 release, on new stunning 180 gram audiophile vinyl. Contains a fold-open four-color poster, printed on both sides, analyzing the soundtrack, Goblin's discography and the pictures of all reissues related to
Zombi
as well as the rare movie postcards of the original movie, realized by Roberto Attanasio, one of the biggest Goblin collectors ever."

Title:
Tenebre
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$34.00
Catalog #:
AMS 032LP
"
Tenebre
is the soundtrack to the eponymous film directed by Dario Argento in 1982.. Originally credited to 'Simonetti - Pignatelli - Morante,' it's still considered a genuine Goblin album. As many people know, the 'real' Goblin were releasing the LP
Volo
at the same time, and the band's name and logo could not be used for copyright reasons.
Tenebre
is the last great collaboration between Argento and Goblin, before an almost 20-year long break that didn't end until 2001's
Non ho sonno
. Here Dario Argento moved from full and warm-colored atmospheres to the aseptic and cold architectural spaces of Rome. The music of
Tenebre
responds to this change. Claudio Simonetti was returning from his first experiences in the techno/dance field and, since the band was missing a real drummer, synthesizers and samplers took over, in a mix between rock and electronic music that once again perfectly blends with the images of the film. This reissue of the
Tenebre
OST vinyl follows the AMS Records tradition where a poster is attached to the LP replica, gathering information for collectors about all the known existing versions of the release, images of the discography, and movie fliers. This release also includes an essay presenting the film and the soundtrack in detail. Not to be missed by any horror movie and soundtracks fans!"

Title:
Nonhosonno
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$37.00
Catalog #:
AMS 033LP
"After a lengthy silence, Goblin reunited in 2000, again for a soundtrack for their long-time friend Dario Argento. As a matter of fact,
NonHoSonno
(sleepless) will be the last record made by the original line-up, and for many fans this is one of their best works, if not the best ever. Of course the original sound of the band is filtered by a more modern production, and the band focuses on symphonic synths and rather heavy guitar work. Surprisingly enough this soundtrack works great even as a stand-alone record. Songs are catchy and there are no weak moments, which are pretty normal for traditional soundtracks. An amazing and outstanding comeback! Still this is the Goblin we love: heavy, doomy, creepy and dark! Please note that
Nonhosonno
has never been reissued on vinyl ever." On colored vinyl; includes poster.

Patrick
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$34.00
Catalog #:
AMS 037LP
"
Patrick
is an Australian thriller/horror movie made in 1978; at the beginning of the following year, Goblin were asked by the Italian distributor of the film, De Laurentis, to write a new soundtrack --originally composed by an Australian musician called...Brian May! -- for the Italian movie market. The result is a mix of old songs added by the Cinevox record label and new selections, strongly influenced by Alan Parsons Project."

Title:
Contamination
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$34.00
Catalog #:
AMS 039LP
"
Contamination
was released in 1980 as a soundtrack for the eponymous horror/science fiction film, during what probably was the most prolific period in Goblin's career, even if the band had already been abandoned by guitarist Massimo Morante and keyboardist Claudio Simonetti. Unknown by most listeners, it's a release that deserves more attention, since it shows a wide range of music styles (jazz, funk, rock, electronic) and once again Goblin's ability in writing film scores."

Buio Omega: The Complete Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Label:
AMS (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$34.00
Catalog #:
AMS 040LP
"
Buio Omega
, two short and simple words that, in the mind of Goblin's fans as well as in the horror/splatter movies fanatics' one, recall sounds and images of a legendary film. Directed in 1979 by Joe D'Amato, it still impresses with the rawness and morbidity of its scenes, the trademark of a director who, much more than others, befits the term 'extreme.' The soundtrack of the film, whose main ingredients are keyboards and synthesizers, swings among echoes of Alan Parsons Project, funk/fusion and melancholic atmospheres. It was never officially published when the film came out, and was finally released on CD by Cinevox Record in 1997 (CDMDF 304) and again in 2008 (CD MDF 631) with two completely different tracklists. Goblin here appear in an atypical shape, with Massimo Morante (guitar) and Claudio Simonetti (keyboards) replaced by Carlo Pennisi and Maurizio Guarini respectively, completing the line-up along with Fabio Pignatelli (bass) and Augustin Marangolo (drums).
Buio Omega
is pressed on vinyl today for the first time ever, a release awaited for years by Goblin fans. The LP is housed in a beautiful gatefold cover showing inside recording sessions photos and promotional flyers/postcards. The tracklist is that of the first 1997 CD edition."

Dawn of the Dead
Label:
DAGORED (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$20.00
Catalog #:
RED 117LP
"The original soundtrack recording for this 1979 US cult movie by horror director George A. Romero (the epic sequel to his legendary
Night Of The Living Dead
). Terrific music score by Goblin and Dario Argento (yes, the Italian director). Liner notes by Roberto Zamori. Free poster included. 180 gram vinyl in gatefold sleeve." "In contrast to Argento's own fretful tempos, Goblin create a plodding, lumbering main theme which fits the slow movement of massed zombies. Fat drums, chunky bass, tubular bells, spaced-out synth chords -- the arrangement is a mutation of Black Sabbath's first LP and Morricone's early Spaghetti Western scores. Inappropriately overstated? Maybe. Luridly stylish? Definitely." -- Philip Brophy/

Title:
Suspiria
Label:
DAGORED (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$20.00
Catalog #:
RED 127LP
"
Suspiria
(1976) recapitulates the formulaic accoutrements of symphonic rock (compound time signatures, ornate instrumentation, vainglorious tone, melodramatic structure, self-aggrandising solos, etc) yet in its feverish simulation of the vocabulary, it somehow transcends the dated conventions of the form. More than
Deep Red
(which occasionally affects jazz fusion styling),
Suspiria
salaciously degenerates into atonal freeform passages which evoke a pap paganism to create some chilling moments of terror. Argento's murderous gaze and psychosexual camera work is matched by the hedonistic fever with which Goblin rake over the cliches of symphonic rock, stoking them into an overblown spectacle of operatic effect. While conservative critics bemoan both the excessiveness of Italian exploitation cinema and the numbing bombast of rock scores, Argento and Goblin collaborate to create a potent and toxic fusion of the two, blending their co-existing strains of perversity." -- Philip Brophy,
Secret History of Film Music
,
THE WIRE
, April 98.
