"This is where it all began. Before Camembert Electrique, there was Magick Brother, originally released on the French BYG label in 1970. Here Daevid Allen and his wife Gilli Smyth (who wrote most of the material on the album) are still finding themselves on the straighter, more pop-oriented side of psychedelia. 12 tracks including the 'Gong Song' where Allen first introduces his pothead pixies. Original artwork. Gatefold sleeve. 180 gram vinyl."

LP
Price:
$20.00
Catalog #:
GET 610
"Recorded in 1971, this is Gong's first proper studio album and it is a classic. A testament to a unique prog rock that branched out in all directions at once. A mixture of psychedelic rock, spacy sounds and lyrics with doses of jazz with a pop but intense sensibility.
Camembert Electrique
remains undated after 30 years. Original artwork... gatefold sleeve... 180 gram HQ vinyl."

"Mostly recorded in the back garden of their French residence between the summer and autumn of 1973,
Angel's Egg
was released around Xmas of the same year as the second part of their Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy. Not a usual progressive rock album containing the pop-oriented song 'Oily Way' and Steve Hillage's fantastic guitar-driven rock tune 'I Never Gild Before' plus more lengthy spaced-out, jazz-influenced jams. Original artwork. Gatefold sleeve.180 gram HQ vinyl."

"Originally released in 1974 as part three in the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy The group recorded the album on a week-long acid trip in a cottage in England. Daevid Allen (who left the band shortly after the album's release) later recalled the recording session 'it was just a wonderful, wonderful trip and we all played and played and played. And we connected so strongly together out of the improvisations, we just improvised and recorded it and then at the end of the day, we would listen to the recordings and take the pieces out that we wanted to learn.' However, the band soon became split over David's lyrics and how he had decided to end the tale of Zero the Hero's experience on Planet Gong. Original artwork. LP Gatefold sleeve, 180 gram HQ vinyl."

Recorded in 1969 and originally released on the legendary French BYG label, this CD reissue beautifully replicates the original's artwork on a nice fold-out digipak and thankfully rescues this work into public visibility. Led by Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth, Gong's debut album presented their spiked vision of "The Kingdom of the Pothead Pixies" into truly illustrious fashion. The spiritual heirs to the fractured throne of Syd's Pink Floyd, this is space-whisper genius from the peak days of the psychedelic dream.

Gong's first proper studio album, if you consider
Magick Brother
as a Daevid Allen/Gilli Smyth album, and the great
Continental Circus
as merely a soundtrack. Recorded in 1971, along with the aforementioned titles this is classic first phase Gong. "In many way,
Camembert
epitomizes the early Gong. ie. stoned loonies having a great time, who also happened to be excellent musicians. It's full of raw energy, more tape loops, space-whisper and glissando guitar."--John Platt.

SPA 14828
Recorded in 1972, this is the first installment of the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy (to be followed by
Angel's Egg
and
You
, and marked a new phase in the band's line up, as Steve Hillage joined on guitar, along with Tim Blake (synthesizer). It also marked the beginning of their alliance with Virgin Records. A surreal triptych of songs about "a telepathic pirate radio network operating brain to brain by crystal machine transmitter direct from Planet Gong," this still finds the band in top-notch floating, psych-prog form, if a bit less heavy than earlier works.

Second installment of the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy, recorded in 1973. Hillage's acid-tinged guitar starts to dominate, but not to bad effect and this is still a good one.

Catalog #:
SPA 14834
Third installment of the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy, and the final proper Gong album to feature Daevid Allen (the band would continue on, in a markedly different direction led by Pierre Moerlen). This album has less outright Allen weirdness, but plenty of heavyish space-jamming via Blake & Hillage and a good celestial psych feel for the period (1974).

CAR 66552CD
2004 remaster, originally issued 1974; the 6th Gong album. "Atmospheric, inscrutable, and unhinged,
You
continues where
Angel's Egg
left off, blasting off into the stratospheric realms of acid-induced space rock (the entire band allegedly performed the album while under the influence!). Guitar wizard Steve Hillage takes a more prominent role on epic, jazz-oriented tunes like the ten minute plus 'Isle Of Everywhere' and the furious 'Master Builder'."

CAR 66556CD
Part II of Radio Gnome Invisible. 2004 remaster of the 5th Gong album, originally issued 1973; with 4 bonus tracks. "Two definitive '70s progressive rock classics digitally remastered from the original masters. Each CD features previously unreleased bonus tracks and an expanded, illustrated booklet.
Angel's Egg
is the rock equivalent of a mad tea party, with lyrics involving Pothead Pixies, Octave Doctors and Radio Gnomes; all set to Pierre Moerlen's tight and sophisticated drumming, Didier Malherbe's multicoloured sax and flute leads, Steve Hillage's cosmic guitar soloing, and Daveid Allen's amusing vocals and glissando guitar layers."
