"Warren Harris, better known as Hanna, is an incredibly prolific producer and multi-instrumentalist from Cleveland, Ohio who has released a string of consistently respected singles and albums over the past few years. Between 1999 and 2002, he released four full-length albums as Hanna (Severance, Scarlet Manifesto, Amen, and Contemplating Jazz) that have stretched and blurred the boundaries of house, techno and jazz. Preferring content to fads and current musical trends, Hanna tries to avoid spending too much time listening to what his peers are producing; instead he looks back to the pioneering spirit of his favorite musicians like Carmen McCrae, Bill Evans, Thomas Whitfield, and Thelonious Monk for his inspiration. The result is a sound that brings their philosophies into electronic music -- the artist not being awed into futility by his heroes, but awed into creating something unique, fantastic and more than a little bit out there! "Born in Cleveland, OH, Warren Harris aka Hanna, was surrounded by music from an early age. His mother sang with the world famous Cleveland Orchestra thus Hanna's early years were spent in an environment that was completely imbued with music. In his early teen years he learned a huge array of instruments and became involved with many projects ranging from classical music to thrash metal. He works with Hip Hop artists and jazz musicians but this album is a result of a long-standing friendship and collaboration with fellow Clevelander, Dan Curtin who signed an earlier album and released it through Dan`s Metamorphic. Severance is brimming with The Funk, whether it`s old-school Hip Hop style or laid-back P-Funk. There`s plenty of soul, melodies catch the emotions and draw you into the moods of this complex and deep excursion into instrumental grooves."
