Gavin Herlihy shows up on Cadenza's doorstep with suitcases spilling over with rubbery bass lines, silvery percussion, and strange samples. "Underneath The Wind Machine" features a slow swell of mandolins, dry electronic percussion and synthesizer gusts backing a fantastic melody and a driving, house-y groove. "Train Dodging," true to its title, is propulsive. Hi-hats, woodblocks, bells and bass trade syncopations; 909 snares push it all forward against sampled horns and voices. It's a white-knuckled ride with a wide-eyed grin.

Gavin Herlihy is back on Cadenza, bearing an instant anthem. Remember those foam toys, the ones where you just had to add water, and they'd swell into wonderful, unexpected shapes? "Back Burner" is a lot like that, but no water is needed: just a needle in the groove is enough to send this sucker ballooning to enormous proportions. "Think" is all about the hips, with a half-speed bass line leading the way. Like classic Chicago house, this is raw, unvarnished stuff.

Fully equipped with heavy artillery consisting of ray gun synthesizer effects, chanting vocals and warped clunking bells. This is a versatile and unique tool that will be applauded by DJ's from many different genres. 'Expression' is a testament to Gavin's sound. You can here his signature touch on the track right through the bubbling melodic bass line, finicky detail to sound design and his ability to effortlessly layer sounds. This is one of those tracks that has his mark all over it, proving he is not just following the pack. There is not too much that is random about 'The Random.' An upright guitar bass line are the backbone of this bad boy, but really what whisks you away and off your feet is the modulating filtered pads. Their simple melody spreads warmth and feeling like a fireplace in a chilled Norwegian hut. People like Gavin are why electronic music is moving forward. "Irish of origin, Londoner of adoption and now settled in Berlin, the DJ, producer and sometime music journalist Gavin Herlihy makes his debut release for Paradigma Musik. After the success of his debut Machine Ate My Homework on Mood Music and the excellent reception by DJs and press alike of his recent EP on Get Physical offshoot Kindisch (the Luciano/Loco Dice/DJ T-championed Opium Haze), we now launch the Okay No Disco EP. Gavin shows us again, that today, when the end of the minimal age is predicted, he collages house and techno into his own sound. With 'Okay No Disco,' Herlihy creates a peak time slice of tech-house built around dancefloor-driving moments that alternate between marching snares and club-rocking hoover-style synths all tied together by a hypnotic, arpeggiating hook. Its addictive melodies take a change of rhythm in the third minute, before dropping into the original melody that echoes the trance of the mid-1990s before the genre was ruined by superclubs and superclub DJ egos. It's a perfect compliment to the Paradigma melodic sound set in stone. 'Sink Or Swim' provides the flipside release, but is by no means just another filler B-side. Built around a nagging melody that evolves throughout the track, its rolling snare-propelled beats echo shades of classic techno rhythms like Minimalman's 'Make A Move.' The hook is a return to the driving techno approach taken on 'Machine Ate My Homework' that erupts into a series of peaktime moments in which the signature melody stamps its mark indelibly on your brain."

"Praia Brava is Gavin Herlihy's second solo single since his debut Machine Ate My Homework. A shimmering slice of melodic tech house, the track started life in Gavin's imagination after a night playing Brazil's revered Warung club, the tropical Balinese style long house club that's fast earned a reputation as one of the world's best parties and a home from home for DJs like Sven Vath or Luciano. Praia Brava is the stretch of beach on which the club is perched and the emotive melodies of the track were designed as an accompaniment to the amazing sunrises that bathe the open ended dancefloor of Warung in early morning, goosebump inducing sunshine. It's already been tipped to be a club hit by Anja Schneider and is ably assisted by a remix from Jesse Rose. The Berlin expat took a break from recording his debut album to turn in a dubbier, stripped down version of the track designed for those late night bass friendly dancefloor work outs."
