The noise they make -- The Smiths as if played by The Velvet Underground and produced by The Pastels -- dispenses with all frills in favour of a unique but effortless mixture of confessional late '80s indie, avant-garde noise, C86, rockabilly, punk and, crucially, rock 'n' roll."
