"A selection of early work by the international Brazilian superstars Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfá, credited with starting the bossa nova revolution in Brazilian music. These recordings, culled from the mid-'50s, mark the earliest stages of the famous duo's career. Just a few years later, with the release of the Black Orpheus movie, both Jobim and Bonfá would be world-famous, this record therefore represents that last magical moment, when Jobim and Bonfá were still just two struggling musicians from Rio."

Title: Orfeu Da Conceição E Outras Histórias
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: GET 8062LP
"Although Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfá's soundtrack to the classic Brazilian film Black Orpheus sold millions of copies when it was released in 1959, the original score, written by Jobim, with performances by Bonfá, has remained a relatively well-kept secret. The internationally-acclaimed film Black Orpheus began life as an award-winning play by the well-known Brazilian playwright and lyricist, Vinicius de Moraes, who in 1956 asked a then-unknown piano player, Antonio Carlos Jobim, to write the score. Jobim then enlisted the talents of an equally unknown Luiz Bonfá to play guitar on all the tracks. The resulting score, found on side A of this LP, soon sent both Jobim and Bonfá (also credited with starting the bossa nova movement) on their way to becoming international stars. Side B of this LP is a sample of Jobim and Bonfá's other work from that same critical year, 1956. These tracks also feature the vocals of the top Brazilian singer of the '50s, Sylvia Telles, as well as performances by talented bass player, Ed Lincoln. A cornerstone of Brazilian musical history!"
