Artist: JUAN DELA CRUZ
Title: Up In Arms
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 013CD
"Reissue of the unknown Juan De La Cruz album originally released in 1971.With 30 minutes of extra live tracks released for the first time. Juan De La Cruz were from the Philippines and this is their debut album. LP originals are very obscure and valued at $2000. The album is a beautiful heavy Psych Rock jammer, better than all the other albums released by the band. An incredible view into early '70s psychedelic rock madness, from the Philippines!

Title: Maskara
Label: VICOR MUSIC (PHILIPPINES)
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: BCD 165CD
"Licensed release manufactured by the original label -- accept no substitutes! Maskara was the third LP by the Juan Dela Cruz band, released in 1974. The power-trio lineup (Gonzalez, Smith & Hanopol) that made Himig Natin a classic remained intact and intense, but this time 'round a couple of mature ballads were added to the mix, just to keep things interesting -- bad asses have feelings too, y'know. Another great set by the ambassadors of Pinoy rock!"

Title: Himig Natin
Label: VICOR MUSIC (PHILIPPINES)
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: BCD 170CD
"Licensed release manufactured by the original label -- accept no substitutes! After releasing one album as a quintet (Up In Arms), Juan Dela Cruz (the Filipino equivalent of John Doe -- a band name, not a band member!) soon downsized to a power trio and recorded their next studio album Himig Natin in 1973, featuring their classic line-up of guitarist Wally Gonzalez, drummer/growler Joey 'Pepe' Smith (fresh from a stint in the equally-OTT Speed, Glue, & Shinki) and Mike Hanopol on bass. The title track (translation: 'Our Music') would become an anthem for the national Pinoy rock scene ('I wrote it in the toilet, twenty minutes before going onstage. I was on acid at the time...' --Pepe) and, via tracks such as 'Take You Home' and 'Shake Your Brains,' one can be assured that getting laid and getting wasted are truly universal pursuits!"
