Being Germany's Gateway to the World, the port city of Hamburg always had a special affinity for America. So, it's not surprising that Peter M. Kersten aka Lawrence has had a deep musical and spiritual relationship with the Detroit techno aesthetics for more than ten years now. His label Dial Rec, which he runs together with Carsten Jost, stands more than almost any other European address for the value-conscious cultivation of high-quality, melancholy techno. After seven albums under his producer aliases Lawrence and Sten, Kersten now continues the perfection of his sound vision also as a DJ in a congenial way. Timeless is far away from the dictate of the dogmatic obligation to the currentness that DJs have to face nowadays, but celebrates electronic dance music as a timeless sensual component. With instinctive certainty, Kersten covers 16 years of living club history without ever losing sight of the acoustic "here and now," or even becoming the slightest bit anachronistically nostalgic. Instead, under his sensitive hands, milestones of minimalized deep house like "Forever Monna" by Chez Damier, Ron Trent and Stacey Pullen (1995) or the 1999 club hit "Overcome" by Thomas Melchior/Baby Ford come together with contemporary and intensive homages to Detroit techno like Smallpeople & Rau's "Life Aquatic," Delano Smith's "My Life" or Pigon's fantastic dub tech romance "Beatmatching" in a wonderful way. Besides that, the mix features such well-known names such as Aril Brikha, Isolée, The Ifach Collective and Robert Hood, before Roman Flügel sets a wistful final chord with "Brian Le Bon," a track based on Duran Duran's masterpiece "Save A Prayer," and Plaid finishes the mix with the crystalline "OI." Lawrence's mix literally breathes the serenity of a light-flooded Sunday morning somewhere between a modernist city and a forest glade, and thus gives his global artistic approach a suitable dimension. "Alexander Geiger, Cologne-based pop lover, Firm head honcho and most recently DJ T's new producer, is Nass. Under this moniker he explores a very reduced, track-y aesthetic, confining himself to the absolutely necessary and a layering technique derived from Wild Pitch. Accordingly, his remix starts with a spare thumping beat which slowly starts spinning towards a climax which adds a piercingly psychotic note to the dreamy chimes of the original, making for a light striking, frictional contrast heating up dancefloors all over. Leipzig-based Daniel Stefanik, best known for his work on labels such as Moon Harbour and Cargo Edition, seizes Lawrence's deep, atmospheric suggestion in a congenial way by transferring it into moody, dubby realms. He proceeds in such a wonderfully subtle manner, you hardly notice the almost 10 minutes of his remix passing by. It is most remarkable how he manages to pair a very serious psychedelic atmosphere with a soft airiness. This track is down-to-earth and reaches for the stars at the same time,"

This is the first full-length release from Lawrence on the Mule Electronic label presenting exclusive tracks and remixes from the artist's past and future. One of the most popular artists of the minimal house scene, Lawrence mostly releases new titles from his own label Dial, and has also released music from labels such as Nova Mute, Kompakt, Ladomat, and Ghostly International. His music is a combination of beautiful melodies and emotional beats, a close resemblance to Theo Parrish and Larry Heard. He also has a side project Sten which is more dance floor friendly. Now he brings his famous melodies to Mule. As Thomas Fehlmann remarks on Lawrence: "All the beats, basslines or chords are chosen for the right reasons, without add-ons or temporary flavor, and there's no waste. This is the second full-length release from Hamburg's Lawrence on the Mule Electronic label. Dial and Smallville owner Peter Kersten aka Lawrence aka Sten is one of the most valued and highly-regarded artists in the modern dance music community with a long history of releases on Nova Mute, Kompakt, Ladomat, Spectral, Ghostly, and of course, his own imprints. Until Then, Goodbye kicks off with a special "intro" version of fan favorite "Friday's Child," followed by the introspective ambient piece "Sunrise." "Grey Light" harkens to the electronic style of Durutti Column while "Jill" is purely sweet, slow house music. The album shifts towards more acoustic-driven material with songs such as "Father Umbrillo" and "Toderhausen Blues" -- but don't fret, purists, as Lawrence hits back with his classic signature sounds with the likes of "In Your Eyes" and "Sleep And Suffer." The beautiful whisper of the atmospheric ambient tune, "Don't Follow Me," the ebb and flow of the piano-driven "A New Day," and the title track leave the listener in a state of bliss. "Peter M. Kersten aka Lawrence/Sten launched the Dial label in 2000 together with his flat mate and DJ friend Carsten Jost. On the Divided 12", Peter Kersten (aka Lawrence) offers up three gorgeous shades of dance music. "Divided" is a classic -- a congas-and-trashcans gallop through melancholy fields of synthesizer. On "Forever Anna" the main theme goes through a series of rhythmic episodes, from its initial ecstatic pop 'n thwock to a spacey, half-time chug, to an ambient fake-out and back to rhythm. Finally, "Blow Up" pairs a horizon-scanning beat to some soul-stirring chord changes, melting and taking shape again.
