Title: In Film (1969-1973)
Label: KILMARNOCK
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: KIL 20041CD
"Composer and pianist Galt MacDermot was once known to the masses as a cultish-footnote -- the composer of the radically successful late 60s Broadway musical HAIR. But this changed in the 90s, as sampling hip hop producers began digging deeper and deeper into his prolific catalog -- first to rare major label projects like his First Natural HAIR band LP, and then onto the obscure joints released by the composer's own indie imprint -- Kilmarnock Records. Pete Rock, Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes and Madlib are just some of the notable names who have borrowed MacDermot's funkiest grooves. There are the familiar grooves of 'Cotton Comes to Harlem' and 'HAIR', the off-kilter funk of 'Martine's Movie', and never-before-released tracks from films such as Fortune and Men's Eyes, Rhinoceros, American Express, Duffer and more. The perfect continuation of the in-depth survey of the funky musical vision of one man -- backed up by the smashing talents of musicians such as Bernard Purdie, Idris Muhammad, 'Bad' Bascomb, Billy Butler, Jimmy Lewis and others.
