Artist: MARHAUG, LASSE
Title: Quality Control
Label: ANOEMA RECORDS (FINLAND)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: NOCD 040CD
"A giant of Scandinavian experimental music, Lasse Marhaug has been active in sound creation since his teenage years. His interests have spanned a wide range of styles: from improv jams to film sound, from humorous collages to crushing harsh noise works. this non-stop activity has resulted in a massive body of recorded work and numerous live performances all over Tellus. Besides his solo work, he has collaborated with a multitude of fellow sound artists on stage and in the studio. In the everflowing stream of music from Marhaug, Quality Control leans towards the noisiest end of his output. With an active, hands-on approach to sound making, it rushes forward to present us with a panoramic view of a mock world inhabited by trash electronics battling it out on a barren desert field at the end of the known universe. From short outbursts to extended epics, Marhaug cooks up an explosive brew of storming feedback and out-rock guitar overload. Quality Control portrays a mature artist at the top of his game."

Title: Alive: Live Recordings 1998-2006
Label: SMALLTOWN SUPERJAZZ (NORWAY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: STSJ 131CD
"Working within the fields of noise music for over 15 years, Marhaug has toured most parts of the world, both as a solo artist & as a member of the project Jazzkamer. Lasse keeps on paying homage to his metal roots (this time Kiss' classic 'Alive'). A selection of live recordings done all over the world in the period of 1998 to 2006. This live album features recordings done among others in Toronto, Bergen, Chicago, New York, Oslo, & Baltimore. In many ways this is a travel letter from Lasse Marhaug to you! A travel letter in noise. Its starts out with a special piece that Lasse made for the Alarm Award (Norwegian Grammy award). He was told by the label to 'make ears bleed.' Lasse succeeded, he made shockwaves through the audience that was dressed for party & easy listening, and he probably did one of his hardest & most violent tracks ever. This CD documents almost 10 years with noise, and it shows the development in today's noise scene as well as it documents the development of an artist that is today regarded as one of the most respected noise musicians & huge influence of today's noise scene."

Title: Spaghetti Western Rainbow
Label: UTECH RECORDS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: UR 002CD
"Hailing from the land of the rising snow, Lasse Marhaug has become one of the most commanding and respected sound artists in Norway. Having collaborated with artists from varying fields of musik (Sunn O))), Aaron Dilloway and Maja Ratkje to name a few) Marhaug's reach extends into musik for theatre, dance, installations and video. A salvo to Ennio Morricone, Spaghetti Western Rainbow stands testament to the Italian composer's enduring influence. Morricone collaborator Sergio Leone established the spaghetti western genre in 1964 with A Fistful of Dollars. The director used Morricone again to score the remaining two films in his three-part account of greed and violence (For a Few Dollars More; The Good, The Bad and the Ugly) Leone's critics were struck by his brutal depiction of an unromantic West, but his singular style, camera angles and extension of time made his film different from any western that had come before. Lasse Marhaug exacts Leone's slow, beautiful power and love for expanse with shades of Morricone's genius to create what will inevitably be considered one of his masterworks. Issued on Utech Records as a micro pressing of 100 CD-R copies in the winter of 2004. Lasse Marhuag first performed this music as an unbroken laptop work for a Chicago radio station. This edition finds the piece remastered and divided into two tracks that open and close the album. Two unreleased tracks recorded in Boston, Bergen and Oslo have been added as bonus material. Artwork inspired by the film The Great Silence."
