Title: Headless Heroes Of The Apocalypse
Label: ATLANTIC
Format: LP
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: SD 8281HLP
After Atlantic released Headless Heroes Of The Apocalypse in 1971, a paranoid Nixon administration demanded that further recordings by Eugene McDaniels not be released -- and Atlantic complied. A fiercely political funk album, featuring outstanding performances from Alphonse Mouzon (drums), Harry Whitaker (piano) and Gary King (bass), among others, Headless Heroes Of The Apocalypse went on to be heavily sampled by Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and Beastie Boys. 180 gram reissue, manufactured by Rhino.

Title: Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse
Label: ATLANTIC
Format: LP
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: SD 8281LP
Exact repro, manufactured by Rhino under license from Atlantic Records. Originally released in 1971, supposedly shortly after which then-Vice President Spiro Agnew demanded the album be shelved for its content. Heavily sampled freak-funk-jazz classic (J Dilla once hid a copy in some bushes) with a Last Poets lyrical bent. "Sampled to death by the '90s hip-hop elite, including Beastie Boys, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, and A Tribe Called Quest, this administration-upsetting LP showcases this former 'jazz freak' as a slightly less cerebral Gil Scott-Heron, with his direct, socially-conscious lyrics laid over some of the funkiest soul-jazz of the early '70s. A ridiculously rare-groove find for years, the influence of the LP is incalculable, forging a path for hip-hop and soul that would continue to keep the music and message of the album relevant to this day. The man would later produce hit records for Roberta Flack, Gladys Night, and Nancy Wilson, but for for a time Eugene was not trying to please anyone, but just kicking back at The Man a little."

Title: Outlaw
Label: WATER
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: WATER 116CD
"First domestic release on CD by this 1970 funky rock black power classic. Probably best known as the writer of the Les McCann/Eddie Harris 1969 hit 'Compared To What', Daniels continues that song's groove-based political message on the Outlaw album. Produced by Joel Dorn and directed by William S. Fischer (1960's sideman for Eddie Harris, Joe Zawinul, Fathead Newman, Herbie Mann), Outlaw hits hard with late 60's black power messages and anti-government statements (with lyrics that still ring true today), all delivered in a hard hitting, but groovy rocking, slightly jazzy style with heavy weight Ron Carter on bass and the 'Welfare City Choir'. This album has been a favorite of underground DJ's and sampling stealers for many years. A Rock'n'Soul classic."
