"Daniel Mehlhart is back on Karmarouge with his second 12" called Kamasutra. The same-named title track on the A-side is an Indian-flavored tune about sensuous and sensual pleasure, spirituality and love. The cheerful and smooth-running track delights with diversified arrangements and instrumentation. A simple, offbeat bass line adds a deep groove and some jazzy elements are clearly audible in the central part. Delightful, frisky and affectionately produced, Daniel Mehlhart succeeded to cock the ravages of time a snook by focusing on a special kind of eroticism. 'Dunkelkammer' on the flip side comes along in a sinister robe. A scary murmur is surrounded by percussive and loop-based elements. It's a functional track with a pushing bass line and whose monotone develops a hypnotic effect, a simple muting of the kickdrum yields lots of fun and works very well on the dancefloor."

"Daniel Mehlhart steps up to the plate for Kindisch's seventeenth release, Origami - an exquisitely deep, languid house jam laced with strung-out, processed Spanish guitar and gently euphoric xylophone arpeggios. 'Origami' is languid, yes, but not exactly laid-back: it's held up and propelled forward by a gently vibrating lattice of kick-drum and snare hits, through which a dubby, molten bass-line and taut, time-keeping chords dreamily but determinedly flow. The perfect soundtrack to the mixed pace of summer's long days and even longer nights. Mehlhart harks back to his acclaimed past releases on Karmarouge and Neutonmusic for 'Alles Klar Alles Easy,' which sees brushed drum and shaker sounds edited into a quietly explosive techno work-out with serious swing. 'Fata Morgana' begins in a more linear, four-to-the-floor style, but those percussive flourishes quickly accrue into something more strange, and then out of the ether comes an entrancing, South American-style chorus line. The voices mingle imperceptibly with woodblock strikes and caustic snares, injecting the techno DNA of 'Fata Morgana' with a sick and psychedelic voodoo funk. With this 12″ Kindisch once again proves itself to be a preeminent stable for experimental, expressive dance-floor music, and Daniel Mehlhart affirms his status as one of our most daring and capable producers."

"The house roots of Distracted Conscience are present right from the onset. Using a double pump kick to inject a pinch more of energy into the already flourishing habitat of off-kilter and spooky sound effects. So many in fact it is easy to see how he came up with the name, 'Distracted Conscience,' as there are more effects floating around in this track than thoughts in the head of an 8-year-old who forgot his daily dose of Ritalin. He turns to an ethnic vocal on 'Alura' again, but keeping the overall mood of this outing a bit deeper. He pulls out even more percussion instruments including extra shakers, toms and bongos all marching along harmoniously. This is a head down, hands-up, side-to-side bopper that just keeps quietly elevating as subtle elements are added and subtracted throughout the duration of the tune. A coherent composition and DJ tool all in one. Although this is his second release there are no signs of a sophomore slump anywhere in site; as Daniel Mehlhart's talent lies in his unique, but subtle ability to gel different elements of music together. Only good things are coming out of this young man's studio and we can't wait to see what the next batch will turn out like, but for now just savor the flavor of this freshly baked batch of goodness."

"These cheerful 22 minutes combine emotive techno/house with synthesizer washes and constant, rolling rhythmic underlay ('Mange Tak'), straight and right down to the last detail (with sparkling piano-chords) but nevertheless oblique produced, 'Kontrastprogramm' reminds us of early works by Charles Webster, Brendon Moeller and, aem, Hot Chip; and Trauerspiel on B2 features a 'once upon a time'-like theme (violin played by Daniel's daddy!) accentuated by a pulsating, hypnotic, rhythmic and gradually building melody and compelling breakdown."

"Bebop heads take a note. Call 0800-7-9-4-6-4-S-W-I-N-G and get a listen to the upcoming Daniel Mehlhart single on Neuton Music. The original track is an exquisite jazz-to-house (call it 'jazzdance' if you're up to it) workout, hip to the bomb, throwing in some Theo Parrish piano action, a zonked trumpet breakdown and body-shaking bass. Dig Jazzanova's 'What's Your Number' remix of Ian Pooley back in 1998 and you know what we're talking about. Daniel Mehlhart's recently remixed DJ T and Mathias Tanzmann and also is going to have another Kindisch release out before the winter. A Basic Channel-like deep and dubby remix on the flip comes by Brendon Moeller from NYC, who's critically-acclaimed One Man's Junk and Jazz Space EPs were heavily played by Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug, Andrew Weatherall, Luciano, Derrick May and many more tastemakers. His spacious sounds and panned echoes reverberate over a sparse framework of steady kick drums and pulsating, minimal bass tones. Second remix is by Beat Pharmacy (which is Brendon's second producer alias under which he is releasing mainly on Francois K's Deep Space label). The Beat Pharmacy takes up the original swinging elements and adds a late night house vibe with a dubbed-out deep space groove, dreamy reverbs and reggae bits. Dial M For... connects the dots between the past, present and future via the thread of jazz running through every track. Lush, innovative and essential."
