This is Copenhagen-based producer Mikkel Meldgaard's (aka Mikkel Metal) third full-length release, and second for Echochord. Mikkel started his music career more than 10 years ago as a guitarist in various noise-rock bands. In the mid-'90s his focus changed to electronic music, inspiration coming primarily from breakbeat music, particularly drum'n'bass. It's during this period that gave Mikkel his nickname "Metal," due to his fondness for hard, metallic drum'n'bass cuts. Around 1999, Mikkel changed focus towards genres like click'n'cuts, IDM, techno and dub, and started releasing under the Mikkel Metal moniker. He has primarily released on Danish label Echochord and German label Kompakt: the former with a dubby, grainy sound, the latter focusing on a more melodic and 4/4-based sound. These ten brand new tracks range from 4-to-the-floor deep minimal tracks to dubby abstract ambient. Once again, Mikkel excels at bringing a modern twist to electronic dub and techno that ranks him in the same league of such luminaries as Deadbeat, Vladislav Delay, Pole and Maurizio.

"Echocord presents the first remix EP. 3 remixes of Mikkel Metal. A1 is a remix by Jan Jelinek. An up-building floating minimal mix by the very successful producer also known as Farben and Gramm. He is known from labels as Scape and Klang. B1 is remixed by Dubtractor from Copenhagen. Dubtractor is a part of the group system, released on Scape and Future 3 released in April 2003. He has just released an album on CCO. B2 is a remix by Lowfour also known as Andreas Tilliander."

"This is the 2nd remix EP of old Mikkel Metal tracks. A1 is a slow, dubby remix by Substance aka DJ Pete from Hardwax Berlin. Pete has releaes several records on Chain Reaction as Substance and is one half of the group Scion together with René Lówe. This remix reminds me of the old Basic Channel and Chain Reaction releases with a Mikkel Metal touch. B1 is a remix by the Berlin group Bus. Bus is Daniel Meteo and Tom Thiel. This remix is the most party-oriented track of the EP, with lots of dub elements. B2 is a remix by Opiate aka Thomas Knaak. This remix is a typical Opiate production with lots of clicks and atmospheres."

"This is the 3rd release in the popular remix series of Mikkel Metal tracks. This time the remixes are done by no one else than Thomas Fehlmann, Dub Surgeon aka Jay Haze and Anders Ilar. A1 is a typical shuffle Thomas Fehlmann rmx, which is the most party-oriented track on this release. Thomas is one half of the super-group the Orb. B1 is a minimal, groovy remix by Dub Surgeon aka Jay Haze. Jay is running the 3 respected labels, Tuning Spork, Future Dub and Contexterrior + the internet label Textone. B2 is a more down to earth crackling rmx by Anders Ilar. Anders is from Stockholm, and has done a lot of releases for labels like Plong and Shitkatapult."

"The 4th remix EP of Mikkel Metal. This time the remixes are done by no one else than Vainqueur, The Modernist and Michael Mayer. Vainqueur aka René Lówe from Hardwax in Berlin did a remix with the typical Vainqueur sound, like the old Chain Reaction and Basic Channel releases. Very dark and minimal grooves. René is a part of Scion, also releasing on Chain Reaction. The Modernist remix is more poppy, with vocals by himself. Very groovy, with dubby elements, perfect for the dancefloor. Michael much deeper than before... very cool atmosphere with the typical Mayer feeling."

"'Testan' deploys a smoke screen of grainy static, and this turns out to be one mother of a click track. Quite rocky bass motif leads into a fantastic synth melody, like the most amazing, unreleased Eno band tune you've never heard, soundtrack to an imaginary movie . 'Hemper' stings it in a much more Chain Reaction kinda style, wicked little pools of microscopic dub sounds, to a walking pace beat, chilled and as we say, quietly awesome stuff."

The first full-length from Copenhagen-based producer Mikkel Metal (aka Mikkel Meldgaard). The tracklist comprises seven previously-unreleased tracks plus three tracks previously released on Kompakt. The CD is backed up by a 12" vinyl release containing four of the new tracks. Mikkel Metal has always refused to force himself on the listener, he would rather act as a commentator on what can occur from a higher state of conscience, without provoking any sort of superiority complex. Arrogance is not his thing. Victimizer is his self-invented expression, giving new meaning to the proverb "the more haste, the less speed." Pay heed and be prepared to be bewildered as to where one should categorize this release -- though Victimizer inspires from the fringes of dub, indie-rock, vocoder-pop and of course minimal techno, this album isn't so simple as to pigeonhole itself in your encyclopedia of genres. Genuinely, Mikkel Metal has delivered dynamic, universal music that once again showcases the progressive growth and depth in Kompakt's blossoming family.
