Artist: MOVE D
Title: Kunststoff
Label: CITY CENTRE OFFICES (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: CCO 037CD
Kunststoff was originally released on Move D's (David Moufang) own Heidelberg-based Source Records back in 1995. Brought back into print by City Centre Offices for a whole new generation to discover, Kunststoff is a dreamlike journey through Move D's compelling vision of an electronic vista that unfurls gradually like a majestic digital tapestry. This is the sound of techno if viewed through a heat-haze. Originally from Heidelberg Germany, Move D spent his childhood listening to the likes of Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd -- yet rather than credit these auteurs with the inspiration behind his work, Moufang pinpoints another factor as the core influence to his musical gestation; space. Having been profoundly affected by a trip to the cinema to see 2001: A Space Odyssey, Moufang spent his childhood obsessed with the cosmos -- and when the desire to make music eventually took over, it's little wonder that the results incorporated such strong elements of the ethereal and otherworldly. Translated into English as "plastic," Kunststoff is anything but production line -- succeeding in sounding as genre defying now as it was when originally released at the half-time interval of the '90s. The tracks "Soap Bubbles" and album standout "In/Out" are intensely textured compositions that take their beats as a flexible spine onto which all manner of sonic flourishes can be mapped. As innovative as any album of the past two decades, Kunststoff is generous to the listener -- refusing to insult their intelligence through easily pigeon-holed avenues, Move D instead throws up a startlingly diverse selection of music that nonetheless retains a firm cohesive thread. Best enjoyed as a whole, Kunststoff revels in juxtaposing the serrated grooves of "Nimm 2" against the kaleidoscopic synths and carbonated beats of "Beyond The Machine" -- stone cold classic.

Title: Anne Will - The Remixes Pt. 1
Label: LIEBE DETAIL SPEZIAL (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: LDS 001EP
"With this remix project, Liebe*Detail starts its sub label Liebe*Detail Spezial. It will be a platform for both remixes from the back catalogue, as well as for proper EPs by single artists and projects. The debut comes in the form of part 1 of a series of remixes for Move D's stunning 'Anne Will.' A second part will be released in March 2007. Barcelona-based Vincenzo clearly is inspired by the original's simplicity. But instead of focusing on the laid back deepness, he strips down the track even more and stresses a challenging straightforwardness. He turns 'Anne Will' into a fully electronic house track whose sequences mill deep into the mix. Hypnotic! Lawrence has been, is and will always be a true house lover. Compared to a lot of his own productions, his remix is less contorted and introverted. He arranges his mix around a simple, driving house chord, giving it a wonderful old school vibe. When a subtle chime loop fades in, the track eventually starts to float in a very typical Lawrence way. London-based Argy surprises with disarming directness. His own productions often display an array of disparate rhythmic elements that mysteriously interlock and eventually create a groove. Here, he just keeps it simple and focuses on one chord that keeps looping all the way through his remix. By adding an organ theme, Argy turns this track into a modern piece of dance music, which at the same time is reminiscent of the good old days."

Title: Anne Will - The Remixes Pt. II
Label: LIEBE DETAIL SPEZIAL (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: LDS 002EP
With remixes by My My, Jackmate & Denis Karimani. "The second installment of the Liebe*Detail Spezial series comes in the form of more remixes of one of their signature tracks, Move D's 'Anne Will.' After the first part with remixes by Lawrence, Argy and Vincenzo more or less focused on the house aspects of the original, this part emphasizes the techno side of things. Prolific producer Denis Karimani from Hamburg turns 'Anne Will' into a minimal, thumping bass affair, that just keeps building up and up until a soaring heavy synth riff lifts it even more up and takes the mix through the roof. This is clearly the most peaktime oriented mix. Jackmate: Michel Baumann (aka Soul Phiction aka part of Mandmade Science and owner of the Philpot label) from Stuttgart sticks to the loopy and hypnotic formula of Move D's original. But instead of keeping it house for late nights, he strips the track down to its rhythmic backbone, making it bump and grind reminiscent of the minimal grooves of Chicago House. Production team My My from Berlin tackle their remix a little differently. They heavily concentrate on syncopated rhythms, providing 'Anne Will' with sort of a Latin feel."

Title: Got Thing/Reflect Stray
Label: PHILPOT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: PHP 021EP
"We are proud to welcome David Moufang aka Move D on Philpot Records. The founding member of the legendary Source label from Heidelberg is dropping three brand new house tracks, which differ from deep to minimal and from dark to funky. While Move D is taking a pause with his label-work, he's pushing his output as an artist. So there's also a re-release of his high acclaimed Kunststoff longplayer on City Center Offices as well as a 12" on Compost Black and the long-awaited third album of his electronic jazz project Conjoint is coming out. So, the Got Thing/Reflect Stray 12" is compared with all those other releases directed to the club floor and for sure these three amazing groovy tunes will work it!"

Title: Cube EP
Label: RUNNING BACK (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: RB 011EP
"There is certainly not enough space to tell you all the great things about Move D we would love to share with you. Being the musical mind behind the legendary Source Records imprint, David Moufang has always been a versatile and prolific character. From ambient soundscapes to Krautrock-y epics, jazz sensibilities or straight-up techno and house, he has done it all with his own special and unique touch. This lovely fingerprint is spread all over the Cube EP. Intended as a tribute to Heidelberg's finest club night of the same name (don't mix it up with that other square project!), Move D shoots two arrows straight into your heart. 'Cube' is one of those stripped-down hypnotic affairs that seems to go on forever and ever just to surprise you with a nice breakdown, before its groove sucks you in again. We guess this is what people mean if they talk about the beauty of simplicity. 'Heidelberg Gals' flips the script in three parts with an old school approach and turns into a monolithic house monster with a bass line to boot. Panache! Bust a Move D!"
