"Naby was the 2009 RFI Discovery Award winner in 2009. His melodic reggae with hints of hip-hop and ragga is also tinged with soul, funk and blues. Naby draws inspiration from his everyday environment. His lyrics speak of the daily lives of young Africans and are rich with a keen wisdom and deep spirituality. Born in Dakar to a Guinean father and a Malian mother, Naby grew up listening to a rich musical mix, his formative influences ranging from Tracy Chapman to his compatriot Omar Pène.
