Title: Don't Know Why
Label: PERLON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: PERL 078EP
2012 repress, originally released in 2010. Miss Fitz, Laverne Radix, Spunky Brewster, Mara Trax, Uli Künkel -- that's all Maayan Nidam, who has already released on various labels such as Contexterrior, Raum...Musik and Sushitec, to name only a few. Earlier in 2009, Maayan presented her first full-length album, Nightlong, through the Japanese label PowerShovelAudio. And the music? Deep!

Title: Nightlong
Label: POWERSHOVELAUDIO EUROPE (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PSCD 029CD
This is the first full-length release by Berlin producer Maayan Nidam (Miss Fitz, Laverne Radix, Spunky Brewster). The product sticker on Nightlong reads: "Maayan Nidam is Miss Fitz. The classical Cuban voice made electronic. The tropical warmth and the minimal beats." The making of this record inadvertently began in Cuba in January, 2008. Powershovelaudio was in Havana, recording some of the best contemporary Cuban singers and musicians. The resulting recordings were of an inspiring beauty, and the label decided that this outstanding collection of voices, woodwinds and brass needed to be deconstructed and reassembled by a female talent in honor of their upcoming series devoted to women in contemporary music and art. Nightlong is a synthetic work. Maayan has inexplicably, quickly and with incredible precision, captured the essence and the expressivity of the Cuban musicians and taken it to a hitherto unknown place. Maayan is well-known for her diligent talent in inserting voices of quality in her mixes, but on this occasion, the result is spellbinding. Instead of concentrating on her signature minimal beats, Maayan has experimented with different cadences, depths and moods, leaving behind a swirling, disconcerting record of inspired beauty. Minimal bolero? Loungetronica? Doesn't matter -- it is mature, accomplished, utterly danceable and totally unique. To top it all off, the cover of this record is graced with photography by one of the best and most influential photographers in the world: Daido Moriyama.

Title: Isitin
Label: WOLF AND LAMB
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: WLM 010EP
Maayan Nidam, formerly known as Miss Fitz, presents a fine selection of wonky house and slow grooves. The cheeky "Isitin" is a spaced-out mid-tempo house groove driven by an effortlessly funky and hypnotic bass line. "Merry Go Round" serves up a cumbia-slow Barry White edit, "Na Und" investigates reversed samples and slinky-slow jazz percussion for the fonkiest ends of the night, and "Better Stop" hits a terrific 100bpm groove for fans of the Workshop 12" or Juju And Jordash. --Boomkat
