2007 release. The smart and charming Berlin-based producer Phonique (Michael Vater) returns with his second album, featuring a limited edition bonus CD with 12 more new Phonique tracks in one mix. Good Idea is a twinkling rainbow, teeming with positive vibes and breathing the cosmopolitan creativity of a widely travelled mind. Good Idea can be described as modern electronic music in the broadest sense, it's difficult to pigeonhole the album as it combines so many influences, ranging from deep- to electro-house, from nu-disco to hip-hop, from lounge to minimal and techno to pop. Phonique and his production partner Alex Krüger join with the talents of well reputed artists like Erlend Øye (Whitest Boy Alive, Kings Of Convenience), Richard Davis, Ian Whitelaw, Shadee and Rodney Hunter of Aphrodelics, Data MC and Marc Hype as well as top electronic producers like Steve Bug, Gui Boratto, Vincenzo, Zoo Brazil, Badmouth (Mazi & Cass) and talents such as Ruben or Liora. The collaboration highlights of the album include "Casualities" (featuring Erlend Øye), which merges uplifting airiness with melancholy in the distinctive Erlend way; the soulful "Worked It Out" (featuring Ian Whitelaw and Meitz) and the powerful "Computer Kidz" (featuring Shadee). But the flow of the entire album makes it difficult to pick out just a few tracks. 2005 release. Another highlight release by Phonique. "Lizard" is based on a sharp lambent sound and a funky Phonique-style bassline joined by a hypnotizing keyboard-expanse and nice melodies. "Hermes" on the flip is a little more minimal and straighter, with impulsive, accented chords and sharp hi-hats pushing the track forward. A modern cutting edge house-track! "The Good Track" perfectly rounds up the EP with fluffily grooving percussions, fleet-footed keys and soulful vocal-snippets.

2007 release. "Casualities" is the first full single taken from Phonique's brilliant second album Good Idea. With the distinctive vocals by Erlend Øye (Kings Of Convenience, Whitest Boy Alive) "Casualities" is one of the strongest tracks on the album and an obvious choice. The song is a wonderfully fleet-footed nu-disco tune with a funky bassloop that lets the sun shine a wee bit brighter. For the remix there could have been no better choice than Morgan Geist, who is one half of the famous Metro Area.
