"Quintessence came from the Ladbroke Grove scene of the late 1960s. A group of musicians who became darlings of the hippy scene and the underground press along with contemporaries Hawkwind. Quintessence played a freaky form of rock music that embraced Indian music, psychedelia and jazz. They came to public attention in 1969 when they signed to Island Records, for whom they recorded three classic albums. In 1971 they signed to RCA records, recording this classic album as their debut for the label. Comprising studio tracks and a live recording from Exeter University,
Self
was a classic of the 'underground.' This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been remastered from the original master tapes and also adds two bonus tracks drawn from the band's only single for RCA Neon label. The album's debut on CD is sure to attract the attention of the legions of collectors of progressive rock."

"Esoteric Recordings add to their recent reissue of Quintessence's first album for RCA Records with this, their final vinyl outing from 1972. Hailing from the heart of London's 'alternative underground' society in Notting Hill, Quintessence were inspired by Eastern philosophy and spiritual teachings creating a unique fusion of psychedelia, jazz and ethnic rock.
Indweller
saw them continue their musical explorations in this vein, creating a classic of the progressive/acid rock genre. The Esoteric remastered edition was produced from the original analog master tapes and features a booklet with liner notes and new essay."

REP 1016CD
2nd album, originally issued by Island, 1970. "The unique sound of these pioneers of new age rock and can be fully enjoyed and appreciated on this remarkable CD.
Quintessence
was the band's second album and was first released in 1970. Featuring a sparkling blend of spiritual lyrics and jazz and rock instrumentals, it still sounds remarkably fresh today. Flute player Raja Ram and vocalist Shiva Shankar, who tear into such classic Quintessence performances as 'Sea Of Immortality', and a 'live' recording of 'Burning Bush', front the group that veers stylistically between Cream and Jethro Tull. Repertoire is proud to reproduce on this important CD the classic cover
Quintessence
with an LP style gatefold sleeve and striking cover picture of Shiva."

REP 1063CD
"Quintessence was one of the most adventurous and exciting bands of the hippie era. As contemporaries of The Doors and Pink Floyd, they gained a fanatical following for their blend of rock, jazz and Eastern spiritual music. Hailed by critics as forerunners of such bands as Ozric Tenacles, Quintessence was the ultimate New Age experience. They were fronted by charismatic singer Shiva Shakti (now known by his real name Phil Jones).
Dive Deep
(1971) was their third album and is full of ecstatic performances, whose hypnotic sounds entranced a generation. In the informative CD liner notes, Phil explains how the group was formed in London in 1969 by flute player Raja Ram and tells the full story of their musical adventures and ultimate demise."
