"Animal Lover is The Residents' new album. When Charles Darwin first proposed in the late 1800s that homo-sapiens had evolved from and were in fact a species of animal, many humans were horrified; humans had an unusual need to feel superior. Taking a step beyond Darwin, Sigmund Freud believed that the human was an animal in conflict, and informing the human of that very simple concept seemed to only increase the conflict. In The Residents' Animal Lover, the creatures who don't really mind if they are animals take an existential look at the upright animal whose normality is sliding toward the wrong end of the spectrum. The human beasts live in a world of primal darkness, their heads forever stuck in the ground like frightened ostriches living in a constant murky dream state. In creating this picture book of animal tales, The Residents wanted to include a soundtrack that related directly to 'animal love'. "After their 1990 Cub-E tour, The Residents needed to recharge their creative batteries, and the Freak Show project was born. Freak Show created a marvelous cast of quirky freaks, each with their own all-too human failings & haunting theme songs worming their way into the listener's brain. Feeling their ideas had more life, The Residents met with comic artists Brian Bolland (visual creator of Judge Dread and the 'Dark Knight' Batman) & Edwin 'Savage Pencil' Pouncey and crafted the idea of a Freak Show graphic novel, which was released by Dark Horse comics a year later. The Freak Show project also spawned a CD-ROM in 1994, and a theatrical stage show complete with orchestra a few years later. Early in the career of the band, the 'theory of obscurity' was introduced to them by the German avant-guardist, N. Senada. The plan called for the creation of complete projects that were literally not intended to be heard by anyone other than its creators. The Residents realized the truth in this ideal: that music really was difficult to record without considering the audience. They thought the experience gained by completing such a project would prove worthwhile toward achieving an independent attitude toward music. Not Available was completed in 1974 and stored. Several years later, in 1978, The Residents were severely over scheduled on their opus, Eskimo. The record company pulled Not Available from the masters room and released it. Surprisingly, The Residents were not upset by this fact since it in no way violated their original intent."

"The Residents' fourth album back on vinyl! Recorded in 1976, Fingerprince is The Residents' fourth album. However, when it was being recorded it was not called Fingerprince. In 1976 it was called Tourniquet of Roses and was so long that it would have consumed three LP sides. The album was cut back to the standard length of two sides, which was renamed Fingerprince. Thanks to the length of CD, the original Tourniquet of Roses was restored. The title Fingerprince is still in use for the longer version however. Vinyl version includes digital download card featuring everything on the CD version!"
