Inside-Outside Reflections, waxed in 1974 by a trio fronted by a little-known multiple reed player from Germany named Dieter Scherf, is one of the greatest obscure gems in European free music -- and for collectors, something of a minor holy grail. Featuring a top performance by a very young Paul Lovens, one of the world's most ingenious percussionists, Inside-Outside is the result of loads of live touring by the trio -- which also featured Polish bassist, Jacek Bednarek on this first-time-on-CD package. Features classic 'broken down van' tour photos, and the original vibrant cover from microscopic private pressing on the LST label -- previously owned only by the freakiest collectors! The revelation, aside from super-rare Lovens (playing at the same time in another ultrahot trio, namely that of Alexander Schlippenbach, with saxophonist Evan Parker ), is Scherf -- whose horn playing represents a wonderful intersection/collision of styles and sounds."
