LASER'S EDGE

Catalog #:
LE 1043CD
"Under exclusive world-wide license from Sony Denmark, The Laser's Edge is pleased to re-launch their long heralded reissue series with the first of six titles from the legendary Danish jazz-rock ensemble Secret Oyster. Considered a 'supergroup' by the Danish rock press, Secret Oyster originally formed in 1973. Notable members include Karsten Vogel (sax) and Jess Staehr (bass) from Burnin' Red Ivanhoe, Kenneth Knudsen (keyboards) and Ole Streenberg (drums) from Coronarias Dans, and guitarist Claus Bohling of Hurdy Gurdy. In 1975 Secret Oyster was commissioned by noted Danish choreographer Flemming Flindt to create the music for
Vidunderlige Kaelling
, the provocative ballet based on the erotic poetry of Jens August Schade. With contributions from ECM recording artist Palle Mikkelborg and Kasper Winding, the recording sessions resulted in their 3rd album, also released the following year in the USA as
Astarte
. Thirty years later it is considered a jazz rock classic that will appeal to fans of Soft Machine, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Return To Forever. This marks the first time that the Secret Oyster catalog has appeared in the compact disc format. With the co-operation of the band,
Vidunderlige Kaelling
features three previously unreleased bonus tracks and new liner notes from Karsten Vogel."

LE 1045CD
"For the first time on CD, the second album from the legendary Danish progressive jazz-rock supergroup Secret Oyster.
Sea Son
was originally released in 1974 on CBS and is now considered by many to be the pinnacle of the band's catalog. The fiery interplay between alto/soprano sax player Karsten Vogel, guitarist Claus Bohling and keyboardist Kenneth Knudsen parallel the work of their contemporaries Return To Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra. With a new rhythm section of bassist Jess Staehr (Brunin Red Ivanhoe) and drummer Ole Streenberg (Coronarias Dans) the band found equal footing in the world of rock and jazz. Perhaps it's the constant tension between the rock and jazz elements and the band's ability to blend both seamless that is the reason for their success."

LE 1050CD
"For the first time on CD, the first studio album by the legendary Danish progressive jazz rock band, Secret Oyster.
Secret Oyster
was originally released in 1973 on CBS Records in Denmark. The album was also released in various territories with the title
Furtive Pearl
. At the time, the band was hailed as a supergroup of sorts. The individual members came from popular bands such as Burnin' Red Ivanhoe, Coronarias Dans, and Hurdy Gurdy. This was a true fusion album -- a marriage of rock and jazz. While later albums had more of a jazz rock feel, this first album featured wild psychedelic guitar leads from Claus Bøhling. His frenetic solos were juxtaposed against the stunning sax work of Karsten Vogel and electric piano of virtuoso keyboardist Kenneth Knudsen. The album was recorded on a surprisingly low budget -- direct to two-track in fact. There is a raw energy that pervades the album that reminds of their contemporaries such as Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return To Forever. With the co-operation of the band,
Secret Oyster
features two non-album bonus tracks and new liner notes from Karsten Vogel."
