"The elusive Shackleton showcases his incendiary live set on Fabric 55. A disorienting trip through unclassifiable styles awaits those brave enough to enter the void. The self-effacing Lancashire-born Sam Shackleton first came to prominence during the early rise of the dubstep scene. The Skull Disco label he ran alongside Appleblim was influential, in that it combined more abstract or avant-garde musical forms with music that could work on advanced dancefloors. Skull Disco was home to Shackleton's cuts such as 'Stalker', 'Death Is Not Final' and 'Blood On My Hands', reworked by Ricardo Villalobos into an 18-minute four-to-the-floor version. Like Ricardo Villalobos and Omar S before, Shackleton's contribution to the Fabric series blurs the boundaries between artist album and mix CD, featuring only his own tracks. The mix consists mainly of unreleased, exclusive material alongside a handful of earlier tracks, and all tracks have been re-worked into entirely new, never-before-heard versions."

Surprise, surprise.... after several excellent releases on his imprint Skull Disco, Berlin transplant Sam Shackleton sends out some drones through Perlon. Shackleton's maverick take on big bass lines and complex beats doesn't fit into any easy categories. Shackleton has been carving out his own brand of eclecticism so far with intricate, snaking percussion, hypnotic melodies, seriously deep bass lines and dubwise sensibilities. With tribal percussion up against electronic screeeeeee, and some bass-y low-end backing ring modulators and other avant garde accessories, Three EPs is a milestone already.

"For those who want to know the background, it is something like this. I bought an Italian drawbar organ module around two years ago. Apparently Italian organs from that period had a bad reputation, but I was so happy with it that it appeared on most of the tracks I had been working on. I thought I had an album together and was supposed to get it mastered on the day after the mastering session for the Pinch and Shackleton release on Honest Jon's. I had also been working on a 12" of more spacious music to go with that album as a limited vinyl 12". By the time that I finished the music, though, the tracks for that 12" became so long for that I couldn't contain them to two sides of a vinyl. This is what became Music for the Quiet Hour album. In the end, we didn't get time to finish the mastering on that day in late summer 2011 and for one reason or another, the date got pushed back three months." --Shackleton; 2CD in a gatefold sleeve.
