With Jesse Rose & Lee Jones remixes. "Philly Soundworks is inspired by the energy and bounce of the early 'go-go' scene in Philly, Sideshow gives us his own interpretation of organic, spacey mid-tempo disco. Delicate keys and a one-take, live bass line played by Fin himself are perfectly complimented by a heavy rolling drum pattern. Let loose on the controls, Fin applies a heavy dose of dub to all fx and percussion twisting the vibe until everything is irie. Jesse Rose pushes the original into peak time territory with tough jacking drums and taught 'n' lean percussive fills. He really goes to work on the keys -- doubling them up and chopping them in and out of the mix to add to the trademark feeling of fidget. By the time a massive acid-laced lead line is introduced, hands are well and truly in the air. Lee Jones' mix can only be described as brilliantly unique. A throbbing journey from start to finish. You cannot fail to fall for his heart-warming chord progression as he teases Fin's original stabs into the mix."

Title:
African Cheri (Stefan Goldmann Rmx)
Label:
AUS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00

AUS 705EP
"Sideshow is the alter ego of Fink -- the well-respected work-o-holic producer, musician, remixer and live performer on Ninja Tune. Sideshow's sound was born of a need to play pure dance music, initially created as the antithesis of the turntablist heavy Ninja culture, but drawing on the experience. For the original of 'African Cheri' we find ourselves asking the question 'is it disco, is it dub, is it techno, or all of the above?' Who cares when Sideshow's at the controls, as the groove is so tight. Starting out all straight and robotic until the disco loops and percussive samples are cut into the mix. The live bass is accompanied by Sideshow's typical dub flashes before things are taken to the next level with a squelchy electronic variation of the bass line that is, well, quite simply... filthy. Stefan Goldmann uses the guitars from Sideshow's original to set the musical tone before building a wonderfully tripped out melody. Layers of found sound, clicks and whirrs are delicately woven around Stefan's resonant drums and lead melody, resulting in a delicate harmony that underpins the mix."
