"The Greek word téchnč simply means a way to know things. Jacek Sienkiewicz knows techno. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Jacek has been busy focusing and developing his own style through his Recognition label. His tracks stand out as both a powerful dancefloor tool and as carefully crafted compositions.
Téchnč
is the second album by Jacek Sienkiewicz and is the first artist album to be released on Sven Vath's Cocoon Recordings. This is techno for the future."

"Technology that powers the world is supposed to be stable and not to fail. But every machine is programmed or operated by a human, whose single mistake can lead into crash. Furthermore, beware of the accidents that happen, which may cause serious damage to a power computer, will it be either a software problem or brutal physical damage. And, in fact, the more complex the technology becomes, the threat of unexpected damage rises. However, broken machines could work, and here is the example:
Displaced
is the second album for Cocoon by Jacek Sienkiewicz, Warsaw-based 27-year old producer and fierce live performer, also running his own label Recognition. This is an exceptional record: made by Jacek after moving from his native Warsaw to more quiet and conservative Cracow, using, among others, a badly crashed laptop computer, virtually high on emotion. One can find all his trademark elements here -- madly driving techno beats, overwhelming melodies and weird vocal snippets, but the result is more dancefloor-friendly as well as more experimental at a time, a rare achievement in today's formalised world of club music. The music formerly known as Techno is not dead, as many say... It's just somewhere else. And that's where it is."

Modern Dance
Label:
COCOON (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
COR 020CD
This is the third full-length album from Poland's
Jacek Sienkiewicz
for Cocoon Recordings.
Modern Dance
is a mixed CD compilation of his past and future 12" releases for his very own Recognition label and from Cocoon. For the last ten years, Jacek has been carving his very own niche in this genre formerly known as techno. Paying respect to the classic masters of Detroit sound, he has never followed formulas and classic frames of what was once considered minimal techno, instead always working on both expanding and questioning the music we used to know. Hence,
Modern Dance
was born. As we all know, dance is an art form, referring to the movements of the human body. Be it a form of one's expression, social interaction, or the extension of spiritual life, dance is most often associated with music. Dance embodies emotions, expresses ideas and generally tells a story. Music is the catalyst. The modern dance was raised out of rebellion against the strict formulas of tradition -- and so was the music you are about to hear. Jacek Sienkiewicz has been exploring the emotional, physical, mental, communicative and artistic aspects of dance and music for the last ten years. Probing and expanding the boundaries of classic techno music, filtering Detroit sound through innumerable studio experiments, his music became the way to express his deepest inner feelings and visionary creativity -- and this is exactly what modern dance is about.

On The Road

COR 026CD
Poland's
Jacek Sienkiewicz
presents his first album for Cocoon Recordings since 2004's
Displaced
(COR 008CD/LP). With over 30 releases behind him, and over a decade of running his own label, Sienkiewicz persistently follows his very own path, creating music that is impossible to define. Friendly, but not fraternizing, modest, but stubborn only in a positive way, Jacek is an individual with a clear, personal vision and an unorthodox approach to music -- light years away from the hectic, utilitarian ethos of club-derived electronic beats.
On The Road
is complex and challenging, to be derived in recent years from the music formerly known as techno. This album successfully attempts to embrace virtually all aspects of modern electronic music -- from rave-like club bangers, through Detroitish passion and deep house-like style, towards ambient soundscapes that are Mariana Trench-deep. Although "Departure" and "Arrival" are clearly marked, this is a journey without a beginning or an end, an endless peregrination in search of the lost chords, primal rhythms and melodies coming supposedly from another world.
On The Road
is also another collaboration with Cocoon -- starting with
Téchnč
(COR 003CD), through the memorable
Displaced
, the cycle is now completed with one of the most experimental albums to appear on
Sven Väth
's label to date. This record is not easy and definitely demands attention -- but it's also rewarding like no other.
On The Road
encapsulates Jacek's journey to date -- and is by no means its closing chapter. Quite the contrary -- it's a blueprint for an even more advanced attempt to create a truly timeless piece of art without denying its obvious, energetic and joyful roots. This is proper music -- full of energy and life, impossibly complex yet light as a feather, dense, thought-provoking and playful at the same time. Balancing between dirty noises and angelic melodies, it is moving and at times simply breath-taking. From the opening drone, in a second turned into a whirlwind of sounds and noises, via robotic fanfares for the common traveler and muscular bass-driven anthems for still non-existent dancefloors, towards ambient-like bliss, we hear mature, totally original music. It's not Detroit nor Santiago, not Sheffield nor Berlin, it's not even the sound of Jacek's hometown of Warsaw -- this is the
real
music of the spheres.

Price:
$12.50
Catalog #:
COR 048EP
This is
Jacek Sienkiewicz
's fourth release for Cocoon Recordings. While the over-heated "My Little Place" re-interprets the credo of dub with polyrhythmic elements, delays and echo in an unfamiliar way, "Com-Bat" carries on his tradition of putting hypnotic sound evocations close to the ten-minute mark. With an intense melancholy, "Com-Bat" is somewhere in between the urban desperation of Detroit, and the atmosphere of after hours and Balearic bliss.

COR 060EP
Jacek Sienkiewicz
seems unstoppable. "All Yours" rolls on the wheels of steel, like some kind of steampunk machinery, and by the time the strings move in, one will recognize an instant classic. The complexity of shuffling beats, flowing hi-hats and percussion is simply breathtaking. "Connections" features Jacek's trademark bells, bongos and cymbals, but the buzzing synths, bass stabs and unidentified voices create a different experience. The track builds mercilessly, and when the synth riff glides in, there is no escape.

"Luckily the Techno-East-Expansion has quickly progressed already. Jacek Sienkiewicz from Warsaw is the living proof and has recently surprised -- as much as he amazed us with his releases on labels like Recognition (his own imprint), DE:Bug or WMF Records. On Klang Elektronik he presents us four tracks that finally introduce the long awaited spring time with their solid energetic grooves and sunny refreshing weirdness. Featherlike light Dub-sounds, powerful basslines and ecstasized percussions are creating a magical soundfield that will make more than one raver meditating in the early hours."

RECOG 022EP
"Jacek Sienkiewicz presents another unbelievably complex experiments in beat programming and string arrangement. This time, Poland's top techno producer known for his storming live sets goes over the edge, stretching minimal techno formula far beyond its limits and comes up with two epic tracks of enormous proportions. 'The One' starts immediately with a stainless steel kick, but what seems to be a digital techno groove soon develops into a cosmic fairytale, with layer after layer of strings, bells and unidentified, but strangely organic sounds, executed with breathtaking complexity and almost obsessive attention to every tiny detail. Sounds and emotions embraced within its almost 10 minutes are enough to fill a couple of albums. The same can be said about the title track, where silicone and chrome bleeps surrender to somewhat otherworldly hyperstring melody. It still IS an electronic dance music -- sparkling with originality, this is yet another proof of Jacek's highly unique blend of shuffling groove and unspeakable beauty."

RECOG 027EP
"First seconds into already 27th release on Recognition, and we immediately know that there is serious business going on here. Stunningly complex drum track go like clockwork, only setting the scene for what is to come. Forget the craft of drum programming -- we are talking another dimension here. 'Modern Dance' is like being suddenly dropped into suspended animation: having that peculiar feeling that the world around is accelerating to the verge of a seizure -- and at the same time this very world feels so slow. Unnameable, transparent sheets of sound almost give no room to breathe -- but one's breath is taken away by the magnificent landscape that's about to appear. Shapes shift under half-closed eyelids, and while the low, peaceful yet sad chant comes in, one can feel it like an omnipresent breath, burning hot and marble cold at the same time. This mysterious and heart-wrenching voice comes courtesy of one Yula, and we're gonna surely hear much more from her in the future. And it seems that the beats literally start to boil. Rhythms shuffle and swing, and given the lack of floating melodies abundant in Jacek's earlier output, this track is even more outstanding from the producer's former work -- probably acting as a bridge towards new visions, appearing in the confidence of the new, almost-perfect studio. Nevertheless, with 'Modern Dance,' Jacek is practically destroying competition, delivering almost twelve minutes of contemporary club sophistication so much different from formulated bleeps of today. There are no jokes here, no winking, no smile -- and no prisoners taken. With such a gigantic effort as a title track, B-side will always be... well, a B-side. Clocking at merely 6 minutes, 'Never Landing Story' is equally labor of love and devotion to exploring new grounds. Fast and firm, it delivers some unsettling frequencies, housey bass stabs and a fair share of pretty disturbing, inhuman voices; it also packs one of the tightest grooves you can imagine, and a brave artist's hand never shook while he laid some ominous harmonium into the mix. Brave and bold, this is the music of tomorrow: maximal techno made with true love and spirit."

SMALL 005EP
"Smallville welcomes Jacek Sienkiewicz with a deeply tripping 12" to become a mindsweeping diamond on the true after hour dancefloors in Berlin, Ibiza and Warsaw. Discover the dramatic vibe of this ultra-modernistic state of the art techno, and you will find Sienkiewicz's polyrhythmic patterns filled with soulful deepness. Jacek Sienkiewicz is a pioneer of the Eastern European independent dance music scene and Poland's leading electronic music artist, managing Recognition Records since 1999. 1996 saw his first live performance, and in 1999, his first record appeared. While not busy with Recognition, Jacek managed to release a string of records abroad -- two albums on Cocoon and singles on Klang, Trapez and WMF Records, as well as numerous remixes. His live sets played all over the world gained him an audience appreciating his unorthodox approach to the music formerly known as techno. Jacek played all the big events like I Love Techno, Awakenings, Nature One, Love Parade, and Detroit (Fuse festival), played dozens of clubs worldwide -- but also low-key art events -- Transmediale, Mutek."
