Title: Elliott Smith
Label: KILL ROCK STARS
Format: CD
Price: $16.50
Catalog #: KRS 246CD
Elliot Smith's second album, originally released in 1995. "...the songs of Elliott Smith explore the eternal theme of life on the skids with lots of little psychological and topographical details that have you sweating out there right on the streets with the desperate, depressed junkie protagonist. 'Needle in the Hay' (originally recorded with a trumpet solo by Eric Mathews-this had to go out when Elliott mixed the song down) had the feel of a bitter letter home: 'You ought to be proud that I'm getting good markssssssssss...' Three years later, in a 1998 interview, he reflected: ''Needle in the Hay' is, for me, the darkest one and it's a big 'fuck you' song to anybody and everybody.'"

Title: Either/Or
Label: KILL ROCK STARS
Format: CD
Price: $16.50
Catalog #: KRS 269CD
Originally released in 1997. Elliott Smith's third album, featuring the song "Pictures Of Me." "Heart sewn firmly to his sleeve, Elliott continues his tuneful dissection of life & what makes it difficult." "Despite his typically self-effacing tone here, and the intentional little lo-fi touches, Either/Or has a clean, glossy, almost sultry sound that's extraordinarily intimate and has the effect of being casual and spontaneous."

Title: New Moon
Label: KILL ROCK STARS
Format: 2CD
Price: $19.50
Catalog #: KRS 455CD
2007 release. "Arguably the most gifted song-writer of his generation, Elliott Smith produced a large body of work that includes five solo albums, as well as From a Basement on the Hill (2004), a collection of songs completed before his death in 2003. New Moon contains 24 songs recorded between 1994-1997, a prolific time in Smith's career, when he recorded his self-titled album and Either/Or (both also released by Kill Rock Stars). Like his other work, New Moon reflects the power of Smith's ability to integrate rich, melodic music with poetic, multi-layered lyrics. Only three songs have seen prior release -- all on compilations -- most extremely limited runs. The final mixing for New Moon was done by Larry Crane, who is also the archivist for the estate of Elliott Smith. A significant portion of proceeds from the album sales will go directly to Outside In, a Portland-based social service organization dedicated to providing diverse services for homeless youth and low-income adults."

Label: KILL ROCK STARS

180 gram LP version. "Kill Rock Stars is proud to re-issue Roman Candle, Elliott Smith's first solo album, originally released on Portland's Cavity Search Records in 1994. Title: Roman Candle
Label: KILL ROCK STARS
Format: CD
Price: $16.50
Catalog #: KRS 523CD
"Kill Rock Stars is proud to re-issue Roman Candle, Elliott Smith's first solo album, originally released on Portland's Cavity Search Records in 1994. Roman Candle is now remastered for the re-release by Roger Seibel (SAE) and Larry Crane, editor of Tape Op Magazine and archivist for Elliott's family. Roman Candle had quite an impact on Slim Moon, Kill Rock Stars' founder: 'In 1994, I had been asked to be on this five-person solo-act tour called Pop Chord with Tammy Watson, Carrie Akre, Sean Croghan and Elliott Smith. The first night at the Crocodile in Seattle, I didn't pay too much attention and people talked all thru Elliott's set. Sean Croghan got up next and said 'all of you people who just talked through Elliott's set are bummed because you just missed something very, very special.' The next night of the tour, at The Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco, I listened very closely to Elliott's set, and it was basically one of those lifechanging moments. Instead of watching the rest of the performers, I went out to the tour van and popped Roman Candle into the player, and listened to it on endless repeat for the rest of the evening and beyond. It completely blew my mind. I have never heard music as heartwrenchingly, gut-checkingly honest, intimate, and wise - before or since.'"

Title: From A Basement On The Hill
Label: KILL ROCK STARS
Format: 2LP
Price: $20.50
Catalog #: KRS 524-180LP
Gatefold 2LP version on 180 gram vinyl. "Elliott Smith has been a patron saint of the indie scene since his days helming Portland heroes Heatmiser. As a solo artist, Smith led a revolution of home four-trackers, from Beck to Cat Power, out of the bedroom and into the studio, where Smithʼs fondness for Beatlesque melody led to some of the most beautifully orchestrated pop of the last decade. From A Basement On The Hill is Smithʼs final recording and finds Smith returning to an edgier, guitar-driven sound, alongside his trademark heart-rending balladry. From A Basement On The Hill was originally released on October 19, 2004 on ANTIRecords and is now proudly re-issued by Kill Rock Stars -- now home to all of Elliott's indie releases. Elliott had been working on the record at the time of his death. Elliottʼs family hired producer Rob Schanpf (Either/Or, XO, Figure 8) and Joanna Bolme to mix and produce the album."

"The album features fourteen tracks compiled from all seven of Elliott Smith's albums (including his albums on Geffen: Roman Candle, Elliott Smith, Either/Or, XO, Figure 8, From A Basement on the Hill, and New Moon.) Title: XO
Label: PLAIN RECORDINGS
Format: LP
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: PLAIN 126LP
"Following the success and acclaim of his two releases on the Kill Rock Stars label, as well an Oscar nomination for the use of his song 'Miss Misery' in the film Good Will Hunting, the late Elliott Smith signed with Dreamworks for the 1998 release of XO. With a major label budget for this, his fourth full length album, Smith was able to craft a fully realized pop masterpiece, fulfilling the promise of previous releases. Though firmly in the McCartney/Lennon/Rundgren/Davies school of songwriting Smith was nothing if not an original. Possibly his best record."

Artist: SMITH, ELLIOTT
Title: Figure 8
Label: PLAIN RECORDINGS
Format: 2LP
Price: $25.00
Catalog #: PLAIN 127LP
"His second release for the Dreamworks label, and fifth overall, Figure 8 is a lush and beautifully melancholy collection of pop songs. Gone is the intimate lo-fi feel of his Kill Rock Stars albums, replaced by intricate arrangements and orchestration. One gets the feeling that the sound of his earlier work was not by choice but by economic necessity and Smith was now, with a major label budget and backing, able to establish himself as a pop craftsman on par with Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney." Originally released 2000.
