Artist: SPIROGYRA
Title: Bells, Boots and Shambles
Label: TAPESTRY RECORDS (LIECHTENSTEIN)
Format: LP
Price: $26.00
Catalog #: TPT 230LP
"This third album by Spirogyra is in many ways their most progressive/folk oriented -- flutes, trumpets, cellos, treated vocals, long instrumental sections -- and of course it features singer Barbara Gaskin, later of Hatfield and The North, National Health and the famed Dave Stewart/Barbara Gaskin juggernaut. All songs and male vocals are by Martin Cockerham, who writes very hummable tunes with biting lyrics. Some collectors fondly label it a 'lost classic,' since many people did re-discover it. Excellent!" 180 gram virgin vinyl, limited edition of 1000 copies. Originally issued in 1973.

Title: Old Boot Wine
Label: TIMELESS RECORDS (LUXEMBOURG)
Format: LP
Price: $28.00
Catalog #: TIME 701LP
2nd album, originally released by Pegasus in the UK, 1972. "Spirogyra were one of the bands of the late English folk revival that embraced progressive-rock and psychedelia. Their debut album, St Radigunds (B&C, 1971), was an innovative work, with Barbara Gaskin on vocals, Julian Cusack on violin, Martin Cockerham on guitar and Tony Cox on electronic keyboards. This sequel, Old Boot Wine was slightly less innovative and disruptive although the textures got thicker (cello, flute) and jazzier. It is, all the same, a precious items to collect on vinyl."
