For the second of four volumes which make up George Crumb's 'Mahrokosmos.' Enrico and Olivia Belli juxtapose the music of this American composer (b. 1929) with that of a predecessor who has influenced him most profoundly. Given that 'Makrokosmos IV' was both conceived and written for piano duet, it made perfect sense to couple it with Igor Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring.' The composer's original version for piano duet heard here saw its 1912 Paris premiere when he partnered with no less a figure than Claude Debussy."
