"
Back for Basics
is John Tejada and Arian Leviste's first full-length collaboration since their remarkable
Fairfax Sake
album on German Playhouse in 2003 and maybe altogether their best production to date. The 10 tracks of the CD (8 brand new plus the recently released 'Psycho Happiness' and 'Ghetto Platipus') flow together like one piece and come on like a highly-needed techno landmark in the 'conscious' retro electro times of 2005. Just check how the nervous feel of 'Patterns' gloriously blends with the warm liquidy electronic bliss of 'From Empty Words' and back to the energetic 'Triad Jack' -- sensible, intense and tempting for more. Tejada and Leviste's advanced production technique makes a sound you'll be hard put to name, right in the sweet spot between house and techno, breaks and 808s, plucked strings and patch cables, edits and immediacy. It's sunlight and silicon; it's a breath of fresh air. Can you feel it?"

This 3-tracker starts off a string of 12"s by the collaborative genius of
John Tejada
and
Arian Leviste
. This duo multiplies the motion, the funk, the accurate timing, the control, the tension, the groove, the deepness, the classic techno-ness, for this release. Check out the ultra-intense, sturdy "Multiplier," an awfully rocking definite consensus tune in the making. "Mathemagician" feels like the "Mono On Mono" update you've been waiting for.

Tejada & Leviste
presents
M Tracks
, featuring 4 analog workouts in varying styles. "M Track 1" is a melodic yet driving track. "M Track 2" and "3" focuses on basic elements while "M Track 4" is more experimental. Analog sequencers were used to drive the various modular synths and their components. Doepfer and Frostwave sequencers, and modular systems Cwejman, Doepfer, Harvestman and Bananalogue modules were used. Analog drum machines aided in the rhythms; however, "M Track 3" was entirely generated from pure modular hardware.

PAL 059EP
Palette Recordings celebrates its 13-year anniversary with a release by
John Tejada
&
Arian Leviste
, who have been collaborating for over 18 years now. With this release, the duo comes full circle, combining some of their oldest production techniques with newer ones. "Messenger," with its intro of modular synths and rhythmic pads, breaks out of its sinister drop full-force into a multi-dimensional crowd-pleaser. "Observer" features a fierce pace that combines vintage synth stabs and drum machines, recreating a classic vibe.

"Tejada and Leviste might be California's best-kept secret. For over a decade, the two have been turning out some of the state's -- and, yeah, the nation's, or even the world's -- deepest, most inspired dance music, with records on Playhouse, Pornflake, Moods and Grooves, and Tejada's own Palette imprint. Collaborators for 11 years, their joint productions date back to the late 90s; Tejada himself has proven one of electronic music's most prolific artists, with records on Palette, R&S, Multiplex, Organized Noise, Seventh City, deFocus, Mosaic, and many more. But Tejada and Leviste have come up with a sound that doesn't really belong to geography: it might be rooted in Detroit techno, but it's scattered with Chicago jack tracks, SoCal G-Funk, Cologne microhouse, New York disco, even a smattering of East Bay Hip Hop, reconfigured for a four-to-the-floor vision of musical inclusiveness. Tejada and Leviste's style makes a sound you'll be hard put to name, right in the sweet spot between house and techno, breaks and 808s, plucked strings and patch cables, edits and immediacy. It's sunlight and silicon; it's a breath of fresh air. Can you feel it?"

"John Tejada (here in cooperation with his friend Arian Leviste) from California USA, can definitely be called one of thee artists of the year so far. After his big hit 'Western Starland' on his own Pallette Recordings imprint and numerous releases on different labels, for example Dan Bell's 7th City, we are proud and happy to finally present him on Playhouse. Really self confident he musically moves over a cut-up like Funk technique, in a way not unlike to Matthew Herbert's style, into an extremely elastic grooving sound."

"Western Starland" is surely one of the signature tunes by tech-funk luminary
John Tejada
and his long-time collaborateur
Ariane Leviste
. Originally released in 2001 on his Palette imprint, this is one of those tunes that never leaves crates and if you have been dancing anywhere in the last 10 years, you'll instantly recognize those synthetic string chords. Tejada revamps the original with a brand-new 2011 mix and the flip holds the glorious original plus the Tejada VIP mix from 2003.
