TOMMY FOUR SEVEN
Title:
Primate
Label:
CLR (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
CLR 010CD
This is the debut album of UK-born and Berlin-based DJ, producer and sound designer
Tommy Four Seven
. Due to its unconventional and innovative production ethos, the record sets itself apart from the majority of contemporary techno productions. Tommy Four Seven did not use any of the traditional percussion and beat sounds, such as hi-hats, snares, rides, shakers or claps, nor did he choose to work with synthesizers. Instead, he used field recordings as the catalyst to shape rhythm and sound, many of which he recorded in his daily life in the city or on the road, and which are alienated beyond recognition. In addition to this, where most would use synthesizers, Tommy instead sculptured engaging vocal recordings, simply adding new and unusual textures to the sonic picture. Musically,
Primate
is deep and hypnotic, driving and exhilarating, with downright unorthodox beat structures and sequences. It delivers everything one could expect from a current techno production, without using a single cliché. When
Chris Liebing
first listened to it, he was immediately fascinated and amazed. This different avenue of techno seemed to be perfectly in line with the new, slightly more free-spirited and experimental CLR philosophy. That is why apart from offering to release the record, he even got involved with the finishing touches of the production, helping to make "the bass sound mega-hot" (as Tommy called it).
Primate
is a unique and uncompromising debut album from a young and promising techno pioneer. Awesome deluxe hardbound digi-book packaging.

CLR 052EP
CLR releases another chapter in the remix series of
Tommy Four Seven
tracks, taken from his debut album
Primate
(CLR 010CD). This time, the remixing artists are CLR label-head
Chris Liebing
and Stroboscopic Artefacts founder
Lucy
, who produced two distinctive versions of Tommy Four Seven's original tracks. While Liebing's remix of "Snout" is straightforward, top-notch techno, Lucy's remix is a rhythmically-unusual, yet elegant approach to the original track by the name of "Talus," which is also included on the EP.

EDLX 005EP
Electric Deluxe welcomes
Tommy Four Seven
to the family. Both
Chris Liebing
and
Speedy J
have been playing "Surma" as a highlight in almost all of their sets, building alternate versions on the fly. Both spontaneously made mixes, and Tommy added a kick-ass tool. "Surma" is both beautifully dark and instantly catchy. Rave alarm signals whip up a steady, pushing groove with a fat bottom-end. Techno, ambient and house are utilized for one sinister intention -- to drive the crowd mad.

Deer Code
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 015EP
"The original mix of 'Deer Code' is a funky little minimal rocker that starts with a simple bass-line and very soft kicks. Subtle percussion in the form of clicks, hi-hats and shakers are slowly introduced while the overall slowly turns into a warm, soulful hypnotizer. Later on, a more soaring synthesizer is introduced along with a thick wave of warm strings on the background: a combination that creates a rather luscious atmosphere. Overall, the track features a well built up groove but a little more musical adventure would have been welcome. Darko Esser turns the original into an utterly chunky tech-house/melodic techno stomper full of fat bass, crispy claps and a great dose of melodic synths and strings. This remix adds that extra bit of magic to the original by including a myriad of psychedelic sounds, resulting in a highly melodic tech jam that will definitely cause a frenzy on the floor. Berlin meets Chicago on this one. Peak-time material!"
