Fuckthelivingfuckthedead is the recording of a Nick Tosches poetry and music performance given at Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, March 2001 as part of the Exhibition "Les Années Pop" (the Pop Years) with Frank Funaro (percussion) and Catherine McRae (violin). Along with Greil Marcus and Lester Bangs, Nick Tosches belongs to a generation of American writers whose literary works have a deep and strong relation to rock'n'roll. Born in 1949 in Newark, New Jersey, Nick Tosches' early works were articles about rock music (Creem magazine) before he decided to become a full-time writer of poetry and prose. He wrote some books about music (Hellfire - a biography of "The Killer" Jerry Lee Lewis, Country: The Twisted Roots of Rock'n' Roll), a famous biography of Dean Martin (Dino: Living High in the Dirty Business of Dreams), and some novels (Power on Earth, Cut Numbers, Trinities - which has been translated in 9 languages, including Chinese, and The Last Opium Den). His last two books are In the Hand of Dante and Blackfire, a biography of an obscure music-hall artist from the 20s, Emmett Miller. Fuckthelivingfuckthedead features a guest appearance by Patti Smith singing her own "Wild Leaves," a song she wrote for her friend Robert Mapplethorpe. This CD (digipak edition) features a 52-page booklet with English lyrics and their French translation made by Julia Dorner.
