Repress; originally released 2004. "'Beta Boy' might shock some people who haven't kept up with the direction hinted at in Anders later remixes. Here it is in full effect, straight in yer face with no compromising. Grand bold bass and heavy, but precise big-room percussion gives us a great piece of funky dancefloor madness. Hug the speakers, bring out the sirens and reach for the lazers! Everyone present at that insane revival-night of Kenneth Bager's legendary late '80s, early '90s Cophenhagen rave institution 'Coma Club' on that hot memorable night this summer will clearly recognize the vibe here. Total K.A.O.S. in other words! Flip the record and you will find something more soothing. 'The Forest,' is a fine slice of techno-poetry. A bit like walking in the woods on a foggy Sunday morning by yourself. It smells of pine and wet leaves. Intricate rhythmic details and mood swings help to keep you refreshed. This is Danish producer Anders Trentemøller's debut full-length release for Poker Flat (now only available as a single CD version). Trentemøller took dancefloors by storm last year with funky minimal techno-tracks such as "Physical Fraction" and "Polar Shift," and subsequently was voted "Best Newcomer" in many dance magazine reader polls. He returns with The Last Resort -- a beautifully crafted, astonishing masterpiece that will leave you breathless. The 13 instrumental tracks together form a wordless musical story, almost like the soundtrack to a movie. It manages to capture a whole range of emotions in subtle melodic miniatures, dreamy ambiences, dusty beats, deep dub-tracks and driving groove-excursions. Although it's definitely an electronic album, it also incorporates live drums, guitars and other acoustic instruments like celesta, glockenspiel, melodica and even DJ scratching to create a more organic feel. The Last Resort also marks Trentemøller's move away from the dancefloor to an introspective album that's especially great for home-listening (or listening in the car, or on your iPod). The A1 slot is reserved for the Trentemøller remix, a true dancefloor anthem with a kicking bass drum and quirky sounds. The dub mix on B1 finds Matthew Herbert contributing his very own interpretation, disrupting and rearranging the original sounds and song structures to create a new and unsettled soundscape. For the A-side, Trentemøller himself created a brilliant remix of the "Moan" vocal version, which has been released on the bonus CD of the limited edition album only. Trentemøller managed to keep the mystic melancholic vibe of the track featuring the vocals of Danish talent Ane Trolle, but adds punchy drums, screaming synths and some more guitars to guarantee serious dancefloor action. Radioslave, aka Matt Edwards, aka Rekid, aka Quiet Village, contributed a great remix on the flipside. Slowly building over reduced drum patterns, their mix culminates in a manic wall of sound.
