The album spotlights eight new signings to the UK label, all of whom indicate 2006 should prove as spectacular a year for Ai devotees as 2005. The Ai garb fits Rootsix perfectly, judging by the gleaming electro-house of 'Just One of Those Things,' and Biologic and Pathic (John Cranmer) sound equally at home on their respective tracks 'Crystal Violet' and 'Triangulation,' where dramatic washes and mellow tones drape over bubbly beats and churning electrofunk. Sensiva (Russian born Artem Galukhin) adds a slippery hip-hop strut to his spacey '44100 th Galaxy' while Tomcats In Tokyo (French duo Fabrice Rey and Fabrice Marsaud) build 'Telophasic C�phalee' into a driving mass of rumbling beats and blistering squelches. Michigan-based Jeanie Moon-Gatrops creates a lovely setting from marimba, synths, acoustic guitar, and her own treated voice, in a style that recalls Melodic more than Ai. No matter how similar or dissimilar their material, the new recruits are concerned less with inciting revolutions than in perpetuating Ai's rep for quality production, and in that regard they succeed admirably."

This final release in the dot series EPs brings Ai's color series to a close and serves up two tracks from each of the three artists behind the solo EPs. The Third Man opens proceedings on a peak-time electro tip with 'Circadian Rhythms,' a track underpinned by a dark growling bass line that will get your internal organs rattling and do some serious damage to your speakers. "Due in part to satisfy the requests for CD-based material, Ai's next full-length offering is a sampler showcasing the breadth of talent and styles signed to the label's roster. Deep, dubby techno is represented on 'Teranidian,' the LP's opener and the final track from Najem Sworb's critically-acclaimed debut EP from late 2007. Plant43's Drexciyan-tinged electro is up next in the shape of the title track from his Grey Sky Cracks EP before we move swiftly onto the The Third Man's warm techno journey along the 'A14.' Hot on the heels of his first full-length opus, the midpoint of the LP is handed over to Datassette; firstly with 'Damage Report,' his futuristic take on machine funk and then the medieval tones of 'Pluck,' a track akin to dropping a court lyre player into a modern day recording studio and allowing him to tinker merrily. Electronica is where the label first made its mark and the latter half of the sampler shows that while recent releases have had more of structured dancefloor feel, this genre is still very much part of the label's repertoire. Michael Manning delivers a pair of previously-unreleased tracks both of which have a strong string content although vary in their approach with 'Center of the Universe' being a full scale orchestral affair with complementary electronics, whereas 'Release' gently works the strings between broken beat and game-like patterns. Strings also play a part in Sinner DC's 'Summer 57,' a distorted electro workout sounding like a slowed-down version of Underworld's 'Rez' and another brand new track exclusive to this release. The LP is then finally brought to a close with the ambient electronica of Michael Manning's 'Lost Aberrant Dragonfly,' the oldest cut on the sampler coming from his earlier EP of the same name."

"You Are Here is a collection of tracks released on Matthew Herbert's Accidental, Soundslike and Lifelike labels from their 3 year history. Initially the three labels were just a way of separating the myriad guises of Herbert. So, Accidental became home to Radio Boy, Lifelike the home of Doctor Rockit and Soundslike the home of Herbert. The label soon attracted a following and demos began to come in. From these came the first releases for the label that weren't produced by Matthew Herbert. The first of these was Phil Parnell's Barcelona EP, the title of which is included here. The next artist was The Soft Pink Truth, a side project of Drew Daniel, one half of Californian experimentalists Matmos. His debut album Do You Party? was released in February 2003 on Lifelike. "Eleven electronic / electro-acoustic artists from eight countries unify to pay homage to what listeners of BBC Radio 4's You and Yours radio program have voted as the most significant invention since 1800, beating computers, the internet, and even the combustion engine with more then half the total votes. The concept is simple: Give a handful of today's most progressive sound designers only one sample to work with. They are able to manipulate this sample in any way they choose, but their entire song must be composed entirely from the single sound byte. "Depending on the eye of the beholder, the barn in East Troy, Wisconsin was complete idioticy or beautiful art. We at Addict Recordings saw it as both. For five beautiful summers, the Barn served as a drawing board for a community of musicians from around the world. Artists like Venetian Snares, Bogdan, Neon Hunk, Doormouse, Emotional Joystick, Stunt Rock and the famed band MEAT used it as a creative testing field; bouncing around insane musical ideas to a greatly appreciative audience. Boats were burned, whole cars flipped, smashed and destroyed. Countless wanderers thrown into mud, ears turned 180 degrees by the foreign sounds. Flash forward, summer 2003, and the barn has seen better days. The property owners are seeing some legal, and this is our way to help. All tracks are donations, and original unreleased music. Each artist was asked to make a song dedicated to the barn, about the barn. We think it's a pretty amazing collection of what has become known as 'midwest hardcore'. "Live recording at the Rotonda del Pellegrini, Milan, January 21st, 1959 featuring John Cage, Morton Feldman, Juan Hidalgo, Leopoldo La Rosa, Walter Marchetti. Among all the events involving John Cage during the long stay in Europe that followed his controversial appearance at Darmstadt Ferienkurse in September 1958, the concert he held in Milan on January 21st perhaps represents a less well known episode. The reasons that justify the necessity to present here, after forty years, the complete recording of the concert, and that restore the measure of the exceptionality of this rare document can be summarized in the contrasting reactions catalyzed by this event. Featuring Cage's intervention both as composer and performer of one's own work as well as of two piano pieces by Morton Feldman, the concert at Pellegrini's 'Rotonda' may be considered the first event of experimental music in Europe in which the presentation of American and European composers consciously acted on an agreeing and equal aesthetic horizon. Both the set of pieces in programme and the peculiar environmental frame of the concert were fit intentionally for emphasizing the radical aesthetic conceptions of the compositions performed. Cage's choice was highly representative and relapsed into those works of his recent catalogue that more than any other was pushed on the way of a conscious neutralization of compositive intention. The Duo which opens the concert significantly consists of the parts for flute and viola excerpted from his celebrated 'Concert for Piano and Orchestra'. Cage then completed his participation in the concert, besides performing some unspecified numbers from 'Music for Piano' (the piece that showed him the possibility to de-conceptualize the resort to chance operations transcribing the paper pointal imperfections), also performing two of the three 'Piano Pieces' with which Morton Feldman, in 1954, was reconverted to conventional notation, while preservrarifyingame rarefying qualities his music formerly acquired by means of the systematic adoption of aleatory graphic notations. Juan Hidalgo, Walter Marchetti, and Leopoldo La Rosa on the contrary premiered six compositions purposefully written for this occasion, employing aleatory procedures for the first time in their works. Both Hidalgo and Marchetti wrote a trio and a quartet firstly following a common notational stylization, which provides the spatial distribution of a prearranged, but reversible, sequence of intervals within a flexible temporal grid, structured fixing each subsequent time limit. Curiously, those procedures forerun the so-called 'temporal-brackets' technique that Cage will employ, at the end of a long creative career, in time-structuring his famous 'Number Pieces'. The cyclical alternation between the instrumentally always-heterogeneous ensemble works and the slight sonority of the solo piano pieces, was presumably regulated, in fact, by an evident principle of symmetry. More than constituting a restriction, a so rigid performing frame plausibly acted as an efficacious form of conjugation in strict connection with the environmental space. Exploiting the circular architectonic structure of the concert hall all the performers were spread abroad among the audience, with the piano exactly in the centre.
