"After a whole year of traveling, practicing, learning, growing, and partying, White Fang boys offer their latest collection of songs. The whole year's worth of experience is presented in this new record, although some songs were recorded even before
Pure Evil
. Musically, there is still the same rawness, though even more ready and confident than anything we've done before. Similar to
Pure Evil
though, is the inclusion of songs recorded in different stages. Some songs are polished and have been played to smiling crowds across the country. Some were just starting to come together and are offered as insights into how songs evolve in this band, while others were birthed there and were never to return. On
Whatever
White Fang reveals itself to be something more than just stage dives, broken noses, and noise complaints. Somewhere in their haze of tie-dyed public annihilation, are genuine displays of compassion and sympathy towards the crumbling world that is underground youth music. Songs like 'Dream On' with its constant reassuring refrains of 'It takes a little while,' and 'Don't turn your back on the world,' are almost submissive to the pressure of 'normal' life. However, tracks such as 'Portland Sucks' and 'Parties to Crash' are protest songs geared against the things that White Fang has come to take a stand against; ageism from venues, older musicians, and journalists, the climate of the Portland DIY community, with its 'past glory' vibe and constant presence of musical figures whose social and artistic relevance have all but washed away, and the overwhelming invasion of young 'artists and musicians' who have come to Portland in search of culture. These songs are smiling confrontation, the showing of the fangs. This is not elitism or a boast of higher standing, but rather an attempt to encourage humble confidence to anyone who will listen."
