WOODEN WAND
Title:
Wither Thou Goest, Cretin
Label:
BLACKEST RAINBOW RECORDS (UK)
Format:
LP
Price:
$19.00
Catalog #:
BRR 200LP
"Vinyl reissue of this fine record from James Toth, aka Wand, aka Wooden Wand that was issued earlier this year as a super limited CDR mounted on a block of wood.
Wither Thou Goest, Cretin
has a kind of lo-fi sound of some of Wand's earlier work combined with the more confident sound of some of his recent releases, it kinda fits somewhere between
The Harem Of The Sundrum and the Witness Figg
and
Born Bad
in the extensive Wand catalogue. At times this record has a really underground surreal sound to it, not just in terms of songwriting, but at times with the music itself, and combined with Toth's ever changing deliverance of vocals throughout the songs, it produces Toth's unique style. There's not many singer songwriters doing what Toth is doing right now, and here he's at the top of his game. It really can't get much better than how it's sounding here. Pro-printed sleeves."

Title:
James & The Quiet
Label:
ECSTATIC PEACE
Format:
CD
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
E#100G
"The prolific James Jackson Toth, working under the nom-detune Wooden Wand has released some 20-plus albums over a handful of years. However, Toth considers
James & The Quiet
only the third proper Wooden Wand full length. While each release has explored a psychedelic-folk wonderland, this album is far and away one of the most concisely focused and downright catchy recordings in the WW oeuvre. Co-arranger and vocalist Jessica Toth may be the record's secret weapon. While perhaps best known for her role as lead vocalist and occasional guitarist in Wooden Wand & the Vanishing Voice, on
James and The Quiet
she emerges as the perfect foil to Toth's inimitable artistic voice. Together with Ranaldo, Jessica wrote and fine-tuned most of the album's exquisite harmony vocals and piano lines. Hoping to transcend genre tags, Toth, with more than a little help from his friends, has crafted a consistent and creative batch of songs that rewards repeat listens and continues to showcase his talent as a songwriter."

Title:
Briarwood
Label:
FIRE (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$18.50
Catalog #:
FIRE 217CD
"
Briarwood
represents the latest direction by an artist (James Jackson Toth, aka Wooden Wand) who continuously confounds, befuddles and challenges his loyal fans, but what do you expect from a guy with a tattoo on his wrist that says 'What Would Neil Young Do?' Recorded with Duquette Johnston and his band the Gum Creek Killers, the sessions were casual and loose, yielding some of the most 'rock and roll' sounding music of Toth's long career."
