LLOYD, DALE
Title:
Semper
Label:
ALLUVIAL RECORDINGS
Format:
CD
Price:
$14.00
Catalog #:
ALL 019CD
"Seattle-based composer Dale Lloyd has collaborated in the past with people such as Yannick Dauby and Michael Northam, and has had work released by labels such as Bremsstrahlung Recordings, Staalplaat and Sirr.ecords. The first piece entitled 'Semper,' is mostly a quiet and contemplative work, yet it contains sprawling builds from near-silent ebbs and flows to thunderous crescendos. Also heard are delicate field recordings and found objects transformed and woven into intricate electronic tapestries. The second and shorter piece titled 'Magnesian Recumbit' is a slowly building ambient work with a unique sense of melancholy that makes for a perfect ending."

"Gino Zardo is a photographer and field recordist born to Italian parents in Australia in 1968. He lives In New York and has worked with some of the world's most prominent photographers for 18 years.
Walking East
is his debut release. Janek Schaefer is a sound artist/musician from London
Walking East
is a photographic sound portrait of my travels through the North Western provinces of India, the Himalayas of Nepal and the Island of Papua New Guinea I set out to explore, through the people I met, the way in which my photographs and sound recordings could magnify a sense of time and place. I began the project in January 1999, covering 50,000 miles through the vast contrasting landscapes over the next year. I found myself trekking for days before I would reach a remote village, a western desert, a tropical monsoon, or a dense jungle. Camping along the way and living amongst the families and tribes, I was able to experience their daily lives and acquire an understanding of their histories and cultures. I found many similarities as I documented a variety of people as they performed in music festivals, worked in steel mills, sold their wares in markets, and celebrated their tribal rituals together. The presence of community, hardship, joy and survival are universal."

BRADLEY, PAUL
Title:
Memorias Extranjeras
Label:
ALLUVIAL RECORDINGS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
ALL 023CD
"An unbelievably great new work from Paul Bradley, one of the new UK masters of drone music. With
Memorias Extranjeras
, Paul works with very festive field recordings from Valencia, Spain. We hear the smooth, complex drone sounds which are his signature along with field recordings which he uses in ways which are perhaps not 'typical' of his work. The single 41-minute piece actually sounds like two separate but related pieces, each with its own mood. This work strikes a perfect balance between darkness and light, somberness and celebration. The music will satisfy the familiar while also introducing Paul's work to an entirely new fan base with its excellent use of rhythm and other elements which are best left heard rather than described."
Artist:
TIDAL/PETER DUIMELINKS
Title:
Ablution
Label:
ALLUVIAL RECORDINGS
Format:
CD
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ALL 024CD
"I'd like to believe that Peter Duimelinks and Tidal's David Brownstead met in a dank warehouse in the middle of nowhere to record the source material for Ablution. But even if they didn't create it in an abandoned space, as Lustmord and Lethe have done in the past, Brownstead and Duimelinks pursue a similar agenda of coupling evocative drones with performative gestures. Throughout
Ablution
's 20 minutes, the pair are heard throwing objects around, extracting the choicer timbres that result, and processing them into a watery ambience. As anxiously banged pieces of metal evolve into a distant choir of chiming phase patterns, swells of blackened sound alter the album's watery metaphors from mildly wet to ominously oceanic."
Artist:
DE WAARD, FRANS
Title:
Vijf Profielen
Label:
ALLUVIAL RECORDINGS
Format:
CD
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
ALL 026CD
"In November 2005, Frans de Waard spend a week recording and composing on location in the small Dutch town Vlissingen, near the coast. The Marine shipyard is located in the center of that town, but activities are moved and the whole area gets new direction in years to come. As part of an exhibition '[Mijn] Domein', three musicians were asked to reflect on this transition. Frans de Waard was last and recorded the remaining activities in this building where so called 'profiles' are made used in shipbuilding. In the piece things move from hectic and busy (in the first profile) to emptiness (in the fifth profile), although it's one piece. Using mainly recordings made on site of elevators, metal cutting and room ambience, this piece is a strong work of field recordings with minor electronic processing."

Artist:
BRADLEY, PAUL
Title:
Más Memorias Extranjeras
Label:
ALLUVIAL RECORDINGS
Format:
CD
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ALL 030CD
"A new section of the great work based on field recordings from Spain. Limited edition. From Paul: 'On returning to
Memorias Extranjeras
(and to the Spanish city of Valencia), the foggy, dark somberness that punctuated the first CD had gone. A fundamental change had occurred in the 12 months between
Memorias Extranjeras
and
Más Memorias Extranjeras
and there was a desire to reflect this and re-work the piece to match this clearer change in perspective. The two releases are two sides of the same coin, one darker, more detached and the other, calmer and more open. Memories that had changed and warped, softened and melded together, the same experience revisited through different eyes." Same cover art as ALL 023CD.
