Title:
The Well of Memory
Label:
AMISH RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
AMI 019CD
"Continuing many of the themes introduced on
Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites
, PG Six's well-received first record,
The Well Of Memory
makes nods towards 60s folk artists like Bert Jansch, Pentangle, Incredible String Band, and John Fahey, while also fitting in with contemporary musicians like New York psych folk poster-boy Devendra Banhardt, Anglo-folk traditionalist Alasdair Roberts, and West Coast psych guitarist Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance. Pat's lyrics draw on narrative force, spinning mythology in abstract patterns that stretch moments of clarity between dreamlike sequences. His music, composed away from the bustle of the city in upstate New York, breathes as solemn spirituals. With
The Well of Memory
, P.G. Six transcends revival carving a permanent spot amongst contemporary singer/songwriters."

Music from The Sherman Box Series and Other Works
Label:
AMISH RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
AMI 024CD
"
The Sherman Box Series
was an exhibition of visual artist Christine Krol at Abaton Gallery, Jersey City, NJ in August/September 2005. She showed an ongoing series of collages constructed in Nat Sherman cigarette boxes, as well as small paintings on wood panels. P.G. Six's contribution to the show was seven pieces for folk harps and electronic processing that played on a loop in the space. These pieces explore some of the sonic possibilities of the wirestrung harp with its long sustaining tones, and the bray harp, with its sitar-like buzzing."

Dearly Beloved
Label:
AMISH RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
AMI 025CD
"These songs were transmitted to us from the ever-elusive former Hall of Famer and Jackie O'Motherfucker contributor. Upon hearing the material, we were surprised to discover that Theo's playful approach to music evidenced in those outfits has transformed into a batch of fantastic and well-structured songs, with inventive orchestration and accomplished playing. Written and recorded in Portland, at the Rare Book Room (Brooklyn, NY) and Sumsilobatem Studios, Degenfeld, Germany,
Dearly Beloved
references a diverse array of sounds: the dark folk of Michael Gira's Angels of Light; the surreal and gothic lyrical inventions of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds; and Syd Barrett's more ambling work, where lyrical and musical lines veer and coast along without a clear destination."

OAKLEY HALL
Title:
Second Guessing
Label:
AMISH RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
AMI 026CD
"Oakley Hall are a six-piece electric string band hailing from Brooklyn. They've always had one foot in American roots music and the other among that borough's storied rock underground. They've earned a reputation among their peers and fans alike for a killer live show featuring top-notch co-ed harmony, interlocking electric fiddle and guitars, and great songwriting hooks. While haunting the same underground spots and sharing many bills with bands that recently have made Brooklyn famous (Oneida, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars, Animal Collective, Black Dice to name a few), Oakley Hall largely worked against the current in leading a small but vibrant psychedelic roots community and subverting American traditional music by finding the rainbows at the root."
Artist:
WEXLER, MIKE
Title:
Sun Wheel
Label:
AMISH RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
AMI 027CD
"
Sun Wheel
is Mike Wexler's debut full-length and marks the arrival of an important new voice poised to be one of the stars of tomorrow's underground. Crafted slowly over more than a year, this recording evidences Wexler's careful attention to detail and his affinities for progressive rock and the Canterbury scene of the late '60s and early '70s. Wexler is joined on
Sun Wheel
by Jordi Wheeler and Charles Burst of The Occasion and Brian Tamborello of Psychic Ills, all of whom also contribute to the arrangement and instrumentation throughout this recording. Though there are hints of The Soft Machine (Robert Wyatt is a professed and revered influence), Quiet Sun, and
Meddle
-era Pink Floyd, Wexler's voice is completely contemporary and completely his own."

BLACK TAJ
Title:
Beyonder
Label:
AMISH RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$14.00
Catalog #:
AMI 029CD
"This second long-player continues to explore the psychedelic and classic rock templates with which they worked on their s/t debut, an incendiary mix of self-aware stoner jams ('Spacewash') and progressive rock time shifts ('Cold Comfort') that recall each of the musicians' previous projects. For most of the 1990s, Dave Brylawski and Steve Popson played in (the recently-reunited) Polvo. In the late 1990s, Grant Tenille joined Brylawski in the primarily folk-inflected Idyll Swords. While many bands in the current hard rock revival mindlessly ape their idols, Black Taj deliver an intelligent updating of these conventions, and prove again that the twin guitar attack of Thin Lizzy and the muscular riffing of early ZZ Top still has legs. If you have been wondering what one-half of Polvo has been up to over the last decade, look no further."
