"The Flaming Lips, bona-fide platinum status artists, are the latest in a long line of acclaimed talents to share their music collection with fans on Azuli's celebrated CD series 'LateNightTales'. Compiled by the trio,
LateNightTales
is the perfect representation of what The Lips listen to, kicking back at home in Oklahoma City. The Flaming Lips' infamous version of The White Stripes 'Seven Nation Army' -- which has been eagerly sought after across the worldwide web since the group performed it live at the Hammersmith Apollo late last year -- is featured as an exclusive on this comp. Playfully dubbed 'Harry Potter's and George W. Bush's Severed Head Arm Mix,' the wacky rendition takes sideswipes at anyone in range with febrile Lips-ian logic. Also featuring songs by Bjork, Miles Davis, Radiohead, 10cc, Nick Drake, Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, The Chemical Brothers, and many more."

Catalog #:
ALN 024CD
"Formed in small town Denton in Texas, over the course of almost a decade the five conscientious musicians have quietly become one of the most alluring acts to come out of America. Journeying across the plains of North America, the wilds of the British Isles and fleeting visits to Holland and Iceland, Midlake's
Late Night Tales
is a voyage through all that mesmerizes and enchants. Incorporating tracks from the likes of deeply seductive vocalist Scott Walker to Bjork (a frequent among the
Late Night Tales
compilations). Midlake's installment certainly does not disappoint. Beach House's captivating and thought provoking 'Silver Soul' further launches Midlake's compilation into the realm of the imaginary and magical. As with all
Late Night Tales
installments, Midlake add their own unique twist to the compilation with their exclusive and much honoured acoustic cover of Black Sabbath's 'Am I Going Insane.'" Other artists include: Bob Carpenter, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Lazarus, Espers, Jimmie Spheeris, Scott Walker, Sandy Denny & Harry Robinson, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Jan Duindam, Twice as Much and Vashti, Sixto Rodriguez, Nico and The Band.

"Trentemoller is the Dane who did. He's been making electronic music of one kind of bent or another for over 15 years, first making his name as part of Trigbag, a live house act that toured extensively. But it's his solo material that has impacted on the dance community - and beyond. 'La Champagne' was a game-changer and his remixes of artists like Sharon Phillips secured his place as an artist with some serious chops. But that's not all he is. You can hear that yearning in his productions and its evident here, a sort of Protestant northern European melancholy. He is aided on his journey towards the Baltic by some heavy hitters, of course: Velvet Underground, Mazzy Star, and This Mortal Coil. But that's not the story, it's not where the plot comes from, it's not where we're going. It's just a little indicator to reassure you we know the way. No. For it's in the dark beauty of Low's tremulous 'Amazing Grace' or even the way that the Shangri-Las' '(Remember) Walkin' In The Sand', surrounded by the similarly inclined, takes on a funereal gait. As we navigate the flatlands of your mind, we're helped along by a generous sprinkling of Anders' fellow Danes, like Darkness Falls (the atmosphere of this mix aptly encapsulated right there), Ekko, Chimes & Bells and the Late Night Tales tradition, Trentemoller's cover of Chris Isaacs' 'Blue Hotel', sung by Marie Fisker and Steen Jorgensen." Also includes tracks by M Ward, We Fell To Earth, Thee Oh Sees, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Ekko, Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds and The Black Angels.

ALN 026CD
"Formed in 2002 in Brooklyn, New York the band consists of multi-instrumentalists Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, both alumni of Wesleyan University. Their 2008 debut
Oracular Spectacular
spawned the almost ubiquitous hit singles 'Kids,' 'Time To Pretend' and 'Electric Feel' while 2010's follow up 'Congratulations' saw them embrace more of a progressive, guitar-driven sound. The bands
Late Night Tales
selection of post-punk, cult indie and counter culture figureheads reflects the band's multifaceted sound, and draws comparisons with contemporary dreampop/chillwave/shoegaze/folk scenes on both side of the Atlantic. The listener finds MGMT presiding over the playlist 'after-the-after-party'; Luminaries the Velvet Underground, Suicide and Julian Cope, although not with their most famous songs, sit alongside less familiar names such as
Disco Inferno
; whose 'Can't See It Through' from their final '96 album
Technicolour
opens proceedings. MGMT's exclusive cover of 'All I ever Wanted Was Everything' by Bahhaus sits comfortably alongside the UK post-punk-gothic band's peers the Durutti Column, the Chills, and the Jacobites and Felt's brief but imposing instrumental 'Red Indians.' Paranoia strikes deep: the double header of Cheval Sombre's 'Troubled Mind' and 'Drug Song' by '60s Christian folk singer Dave Bixby accentuate the hope offered by the ever penitent Spacemen 3 (MGMT's second album
Congratulations
was recorded with founder Pete Kember aka Sonic Boom), who deliver 'Lord Can you Hear Me?' in respect to the beautiful closer 'Morning Splendor;' taken from Pauline Anna Storm's rare '82 LP
Trans-Millenia Consort
. Putting a full stop on the selection, music journalist and
Art and Noise
collaborator Paul Morley continues his 'Lost for Words' short story."
