At the end of this corridor is a room where all the secrets of life are kept. This room is locked and can only be opened through sound. If we play the right combination of tones the door opens and we are allowed to enter the room. Once inside, a secret of life is revealed to us. Every time we play music we can enter this room." --Wm. Parker.

Artist: MORRIS TRIO, JOE
Title: Antennae
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: AUM 004CD
The trio of Morris (guitar), Nate McBride (acoustic bass) & Jerome Deupree (drums). "Joe Morris is one of the rare ones. A player who sets up great challenges for himself, and proceeds to meet them head on with resounding success. He plays the guitar like no one else can play; for comparative description, it's actually easier to refer to a horn player like Jimmy Lyons than any other guitarist in the history of the music. Playing with a very clean tone (no fx boxes, no pedals), his work builds energy through precise articulation and phrasing, rather than volume or other theatrics. Actually, the fretboard leaps unleashed to actualize the phrasing in his music often times seem impossible, or at the very least, superhuman. At this point however, it all flows very naturally from Joe Morris."

Artist: OTHER DIMENSIONS IN MUSIC: SPECIAL QUINTET WITH MATTHEW SHIPP
Title: Time Is Of The Essence: The Essence Is Beyond Time
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 013CD
"The music on this CD is at the vanguard of the distinctly Afro-American means of expression known as jazz. Jazz being a language that has been updated and advanced through the work of true giants of music throughout this century. The music herein quite readily represents the vanguard of organized sound as well. And voiced with an eloquence, lucidity, and passion that is, to the point, unparalleled. Taking into account that this music is created without precognition of any kind, the profundity of its rhythmic and harmonic advances is made even more remarkable." Roy Campbell (trumpet, flugelhorn, pocket trumpet), Daniel Carter (alto/tenor sax, flute, trumpet), Matthew Shipp (piano), William Parker (bass), Rashid Bakr (drums).

Artist: MORRIS/MAT MANERI, JOE
Title: Soul Search
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: AUM 014CD
"Two of the world's greatest soul improvisers and technical prodigies on their respective instruments act upon a long-standing desire to set up microphones, press record on the reels, and unleash a series of fully improvised theatres of sound. Subtlety and nuance and listening rule. Journeys into uncharted territories abound." Morris (electric guitar), Maneri (electric violin).

Title: Mayor of Punkville
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: AUM 015/6CD
"Bassist/composer/poet/ultra-deep human William Parker held a monthly series at NYC's Tonic last summer/fall with his 16 piece Creative Music Orchestra. These shows were all recorded, and this majestic selector set is the result. This is the followup to 1997's universally acclaimed 2CD set Sunrise In The Tone World."

Artist: MORRIS, JOE
Title: Singularity
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: AUM 018CD
"After a brief breather, a season two past, and the hub-hub of a great old chosen frozen turned to hubris: Joe Morris sat down with his steel string acoustic and flew. West Africa is in the living room. Devastating technique is in ample evidence, but of course, that's not the point. Here then, ten excursions in elevation. Six strings versus ten fingers; brilliant beauty."

Artist: DAVID S. WARE QUARTET
Title: Corridors & Parallels
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 019CD
"After a decade+ of top operation, and a dozen profound albums to prove it, we have here the very highly anticipated album #13 from the David S. Ware Quartet. This album is a 'first' for Ware in a number of important ways; perhaps the most compelling is his incorporation of synthesizer into the sonic template. This marks pianist Matthew Shipp's recorded debut on the instrument."

Artist: NOMMONSEMBLE, THE
Title: Life Cycle
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 020CD
Whit Dickey (drums), Rob Brown (alto sax, flute), Matthew Shipp (piano), Mat Maneri (viola). "Whit Dickey returns to AUM with this tremendous new ensemble and an exquisite sound cycle. His abiding interest in the ancient essence of life which breathes freely in wide-open spaces -- uncluttered by static -- is here reflected. The Nommonsemble is the first time that all four players have worked together as one. The resulting Music resonates and radiates in ways unique to the sonic palette presently available to us."

Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 021CD
"A club remix album of the infinite grooves on Piercing The Veil by William Parker & Hamid Drake was intended from the beginning. For the past 6 years the Organic Grooves Collective has been holding Friday night parties all over NYC. Created by a collective of DJs and musicians, the Organic Grooves sound blends live instrumentation with original tracks and mixes tribal drum beats with contemporary sample techniques and electronics. Inspired equally by the rhythmic heartbeat of Africa, the layered bliss of prime Lee Perry dub productions, and the contemporary club sound."

Artist: PARKER QUARTET, WILLIAM
Title: O'Neal's Porch
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 022CD
New, third edition. "In 2001, William Parker unveiled his tremendous new Quartet with this album. Self-produced and released in an edition of 1000 copies on his own Centering Records, the album was sold exclusively at gigs and through mail-order. It quickly sold out, just prior to being chosen among the Best Jazz Albums of the Year by the New York Times, Jazz Times, Downbeat and AllAboutJazz.com."

Artist: DAVID S. WARE QUARTET
Title: Freedom Suite
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 023CD
"David S. Ware's relationship with Sonny Rollins stretches back to the younger's teens, when the elder took him under his wing for informal improv sessions. Rollins recognized the gift that Ware possessed early on -- a profound gift of expression that has blossomed in the 35 years since into what is now internationally recognized as one of the great voices on the tenor sax. Following on the success of his first excursions utilizing synthesized sound on 2001's acclaimed Corridors & Parallels, David S. Ware has manifest another first, an album-length exploration of his early mentor Sonny Rollins' 1958 composition for trio, 'The Freedom Suite'. Here, Ware and his Quartet interpolate a weighty composition by an elder Master. The results are exhilarating -- the band is deeply focused, yet they swing like mad. And Ware, Saxophone Collossus indeed. The lineage made explicit."

Artist: MANERI ENSEMBLE
Title: Going To Church
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 024CD
"Going To Church is a once-in-our-lifetime meeting of three distinct and potent worlds of improv. One sunny Saturday afternoon in the studio with no preset ideas, save free communication through tone. The open form and fluid dynamics that day manifest themselves into this profound hour-long program, ranging from rarefied pastoral beauty to an intensity of psychedelic proportions. String prodigy Mat Maneri and his father, underground legend Joe Maneri -- an innovator in the realm of lucidation through microtones. The legendary ex-pat bassist Barre Phillips (New Thing at Newport Ornette Coleman, Naked Lunch soundtrack, ECM Records pivot) representing the finest that European improv has to offer. Legends in the making Matthew Shipp and Roy Campbell, bring to the party the African-American tradition; their gifts honed in the hardcore NYC of Now."

Artist: CARTER & REUBEN RADDING, DANIEL
Title: Luminescence
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 025CD
"This exquisite entry to eternity manifests a singular quietude -- a mesmeric magnitude is maintained full through, broken only (perhaps) by the beckoning home of sea creatures at it's conclusion. Multi-instrumentalist tone master Daniel Carter is featured here in rare exclusivity on alto saxophone and, for the first time, on our West Coast. Daniel Carter is an underground legend and has been an integral part of the NYC music scene for three decades and running. 'Underground' largely because he sublimates his profound gifts into the pro-creative collective. He is a founding member of the peerless soul-improv groups Other Dimensions In Music and Test."

Artist: DAUGHTER
Title: Skin
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 026CD
"Daughter is fronted by M.L. Platt and Nicole Lombardi. The unison past of these two women is a bit hazy, but word is they were raised by wolves in the streets of NYC. Regarding their future, on first exposure to Skin, it seems that the immolation of all assholes is the plan. The band kicks precision punk rock and the songs are armament and artillery for this time, in which the shredding of the space-time continuum is rapidly advancing. Essence of the New York City rock revival? Quaint next to Skin. Feminist empowerment? M.L. could take Eminem out in a street fight. Skin is Daughter's debut. From NYC's streets comes punk rock greatness once again. The same standards of excellence that Aum Fidelity adheres to for the Avant Jazz are here applied to the first Rock album from the label? indeed."

Artist: SHRIMP BOAT
Title: Something Grand
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: 4CD
Price: $36.00
Catalog #: AUM 028/30CD
"Shrimp Boat was a phenomenal band that made music out of Chicago from the mid '80s clear through to 1993. Taking inspiration from bluegrass, jazz, country, rock 'n' roll, and most importantly -- their own collective gung-ho, their ability to voluminously manifest new song form from the air around them left those exposed awestruck. Three albums were released in their lifetime: great, beautiful documents all, but they aren't even the half of it. Ian Schneller, Sam Prekop, David Kroll, Eric Claridge and Brad Wood were Shrimp Boat. They recorded everything, and this set manifests the extended 'Mega-money shot' culled from well over 400 hours of unreleased tapes -- 16-tracks made at Idful Music, 4-tracks made at their loft on Archer Street, live stage performances, and radio broadcasts. Something Grand is a 3xCD collection featuring 51 tracks and a 54-page booklet packed with photos, show flyers and two sets of comprehensive liner notes." First 2000 copies include a bonus 4th full-length CD of further exclusive material.

Artist: SHRIMP BOAT
Title: Speckly
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 033CD
"This is the first-time-on-CD issue of Shrimp Boat's brilliant and long out-of-print debut LP, Speckly. Transferred and re-mastered with love from the original master tapes. Originally issued in 1989. Fifteen years later, Speckly remains a masterpiece of singularly addictive and utterly unique American song-craft (bluegrass/folk/jazz/rock pop), featuring floor-stomping dance numbers, hypnotic ballads, and throughout -- an unabashed love for the simple movement of carbon-based life forms through time and space. Driven by soul and poetry, Shrimp Boat's material celebrates the imagination, the hallucinations and the dream. Shrimp Boat was the legendary Chicago band of Sam Prekop, Eric Claridge (who both went on to form The Sea and Cake), Ian Schneller (later of Falstaff and Specimen Products), and secret weapon David Kroll."

Artist: PARKER QUARTET, WILLIAM
Title: Sound Unity
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 034CD
"The brand new album from the extraordinary William Parker Quartet: William Parker (bass/composition), Hamid Drake (drums), Rob Brown (alto saxophone), Lewis Barnes: (trumpet). Sound Unity is comprised of six brand new long-form compositions recorded live to multi-track in Montreal and Vancouver on the group's Summer 2004 tour of Canada. Infectious grooves and luminescent melodies to the fore. Consummately stunning and eternal?". From the liner notes to Sound Unity by William Parker: "All people in the world need the beauty of truth to survive. ... Over the last 600 years we have acquired tons of knowledge and information about everything under the sun, yet we are a stone's throw away from destroying the world in which we live. All information that is acquired in life must transform into wisdom; then into compassion. Without compassion science will never succeed."

Artist: TRIPTYCH MYTH
Title: The Beautiful
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 035CD
"The Beautiful ranges from gorgeously melodic (heartbreaking and re-building) new songs from Cooper-Moore, tone-poem explorations of the Now, new definitions of swing, excursions into energy music that will confound pre-conceived notions, New American Folktales waiting for the New America to be born, and cinematic colorations that carve sound into mountains. Packaged in deluxe 6-panel digipak with specially commissioned artwork by M.P. Landis and liner notes by William Parker. Triptych Myth is a new collective trio of Cooper-Moore (piano), Tom Abbs (bass) and Chad Taylor (drums)."

Artist: PARKER, WILLIAM
Title: Long Hidden: The Olmec Series
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 036CD
"Explores and expands on the ancient DNA/cultural codex that connects Africa to The Americas -- reflecting William Parker's long abiding interest in and study of the continental connection between the Manding people of West Africa and the Olmec of ancient Mexico (root culture of the Maya forward). A listening meditation exercise toward your enduring pertinence in the present world? A ten-track introductory manual on how to comport yourself in the reigning parallel? Yes to both questions. 2012 is on its way, after all. The album opens with an arrestingly spacious solo bass performance of the traditional hymn 'There Is A Balm In Gilead,' one of William's favorites. It continues episodically with music from three different sessions. The title track is a series of solo pieces on the 8-string doson ngoni (traditional hunter's guitar from West Africa). William was introduced to the instrument in 1975 by Don Cherry. And finally, launching off the grid, are four tracks by The Olmec Group. These four tracks are at the crux of Long Hidden -- mysterious and entrancing sound poetry embracing the Caribbean and Middle America via inspiration drawn from the Great Stone Head of the Olmec. Further to William on percussion and 6-string doson ngoni, the O.G. is composed of Dave Sewelson: the veteran saxophone player who has been active on the creative music scene for the last thirty years, Todd Nicholson: a formidable presence on the bass who when not leading his own bands can be heard with the violinist Billy Bang, and -- Omar Payano, Isaiah Parker, Gabriel Nunez and Luis Ramierez -- all under 23 years old, who play Merengue music."

Artist: NATHANSON, ROY
Title: Sotto Voce
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 037CD
"Sotto Voce is the brand new concept/group/album from the extraordinarily gifted, and wide-open mind of saxophonist/composer/songwriter Roy Nathanson. The group features his fellow Jazz Passengers Curtis Fowlkes and Sam Bardfeld, along with 'wunderkind' bassist/singer Tim Kiah and human beat-box/singer Napoleon Maddox of the Cincinnati hip-hop/jazz outfit Iswhat?! The album features six infectious new songs and/or stories by Nathanson, as well as an interpolation of Bobby Hebb's mid-'60s R&B/pop smash 'Sunny' and a gorgeous reading of great jazz composer Rahsaan Roland Kirk's 'The Inflated Tear' with new lyrics by Roy Nathanson. Roy Nathanson has spent the last 25 years composing and performing free & post-bop jazz with/for an assortment of odd punk, world and 'new' music projects coming out of the downtown NYC scene. He and Curtis Fowlkes formed the Jazz Passengers in the late '80s, mostly with members of John Lurie's late-period Lounge Lizards."

Artist: JORDAN + HAMID DRAKE + WILLIAM PARKER, KIDD
Title: Palm of Soul
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 038CD
"From the gorgeously yearning space search 'Forever' to the epic saga 'Living Peace' (which to our ears sounds like the shifting energy of New Orleans as Katrina approached and, finally, broke the levees in the end) to the deep North African grooves created on 'Unity Call' and 'So Often' to the majestic Far East parade of the closing track -- Palm of Soul presents three master musicians in intimate musical conversation at the highest levels -- rendering innumerable mesmeric songs which elicit the full gamut of emotional response. An utterly distinct, distinguished and major album work."

Artist: PARKER & HAMID DRAKE, WILLIAM
Title: First Communion + Piercing The Veil: Volume 1 Complete
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: AUM 039/40CD
William Parker: bass, shakuhachi, slit drum, balafon, bombarde, dumbek; Hamid Drake: drums, tabla, frame drum, bells. "Way back in 1999 the vision struck AUM to bring William Parker and Hamid Drake into the studio to make a duo album; the proposal was made on the front steps of a church in June of that year. Hamid's flight from Chicago was booked shortly thereafter. The very first time that Parker & Drake performed together as a duo took place on April 1, 2000 at AUM HQ to a fully packed and rapt audience of some 80 strong. It was a magical Saturday night; the First Communion concert is here presented in its entirety/deeply fervent glory for the first time (and only here on this CD). On Monday the 3rd they entered the studio to record Piercing The Veil, which was originally issued in June 2001 to great acclaim and is herewith now beautifully back in print."

Artist: PARKER & HAMID DRAKE, WILLIAM
Title: Volume 2: Summer Snow
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 041CD
"Summer Snow represents the second immaculate studio session from two of the greatest musical beings America has to offer the world. Our recent expanded issue of their first duo meetings -- First Communion + Piercing The Veil: Volume 1 Complete -- displayed their eternal prowess via intensity in full; re-defining drum & bass in any music and drawing on musical traditions that span the globe. Summer Snow continues their masterful incorporation of the world's music and reveals Parker and Drake in a beautifully meditative and equally mesmerizing state of creation. Eleven fully improvised sonic treasures in song that shall give wisdom forevermore."

Artist: WARE QUARTET, DAVID S.
Title: Renunciation
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 042CD
"Renunciation was recorded live at Vision Festival XI on June 18, 2006 at the Orensanz Art Center in New York City. It was posited as the last ever U.S. performance by David S. Ware's revered Quartet. Featuring three profound new compositions (the beauty ballad Ganesh Sound, the epic Renunciation Suite centerpiece, and the condensed encore), this concert and exquisite recording thereof offers the Quartet at the very height of their powers, as they collectively say good-bye. A magnificent performance by one of the greatest jazz bands the world will ever know, and which may well indeed have been their very last here in this country which birthed them."

Artist: PARKER/RAINING ON THE MOON, WILLIAM
Title: Corn Meal Dance
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 043CD
"When Time Out New York proclaimed William Parker one of 'the 50 greatest New York Musicians of all time' this Spring, it was not just because he is 'the most consistently brilliant free jazz bassist of all time' (Village Voice). Corn Meal Dance makes his multi-faceted talents as bassist, composer, poet, bandleader and songwriter abundantly clear. Raining On The Moon is the group which seamlessly fuses all of his prodigious gifts -- his long-standing quartet with Hamid Drake, Rob Brown, Lewis Barnes is here exquisitely augmented by singer Leena Conquest once again, and pianist Eri Yamamoto for the first time -- perfect harmonic expansion for the song-craft. William Parker's soul-nourishing poetry and supremely catchy melodies are brought to scintillating life by a group featuring some of the finest improvisers in the world. Corn Meal Dance is an incomparable and uncompromising work that AUM Fidelity is deeply honored to present; the release of this wonderful record is how AUM Fidelity is celebrating its 10th anniversary! Recorded, mixed and mastered in 24 bit digital to AUM Fidelity's highest standards. Packaged in jewel case with a beautiful 20-page booklet featuring William Parker's lyrics and liner notes by Greg Tate."

Artist: BROWN ENSEMBLE, ROB
Title: Crown Trunk Root Funk
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 044CD
"Rob Brown is an awesome alto saxophonist, a mercurial improviser who is perpetually inventive. AUM Fidelity has recorded him many times over the years as a foundation member of the groups of William Parker, and in conjunction with out drummer Whit Dickey. In this time, Brown has revealed himself to be a composer and group leader of distinct gifts. This is our first release with Mr. Brown as leader. A principal focus of Crown Trunk Root Funk is deep grooves, often dark and ominous, with levity provided by Brown's indelible melodies and the highly exploratory work of this extraordinary band. Parker provides the root bass, and drummer Gerald Cleaver brings his supremely sensitive musicality and Detroit-bred funk. Keyboardist and fellow Detroit native Craig Taborn (whose collaborative pedigree spans Tim Berne, James Carter, Carl Craig, Roscoe Mitchell, Meat Beat Manifesto, Chris Potter) is likewise endlessly inventive within this tremendously rewarding sonic ecosystem."

Artist: CAMPBELL ENSEMBLE, ROY
Title: Akhenaten Suite
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 045CD
"Roy Campbell is a jazz trumpeter and composer of the first order, one who encompasses the tradition even as he pushes the music forward. A founding member of the luminous collective Other Dimensions In Music, as well as Marc Ribot's recent Spiritual Unity project, his last album as a nominal leader, 2001's Ethnic Stew and Brew (w/ William Parker and Hamid Drake) topped countless year-end top 10 lists. The well-traveled trumpeter has long been a sonic frontiersman, embracing the universality of a sound continuum in which the Harlem-bound A Train and the majestic River Nile are moonlit reflections of each other. Here, Campbell turns his hand to an extended work inspired by Amenhotep IV, Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty of Egypt. Akhenaten Suite, specially commissioned for and recorded live at the 2007 Vision Festival, is a splendid passage to a fabled dimension. It's realized by musicians -- including Billy Bang on violin -- who have an intimate affiliation with Campbell's vibrant brass stylings and wonderfully open, expansive compositions. In the writing/otherworld manifestation tradition of Ellington's Far-East Suite, Miles' and Gil Evans' Sketches of Spain and Sun Ra's Heliocentric Worlds."

Artist: DIXON, BILL
Title: 17 Musicians In Search of a Sound: Darfur
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 046CD
"Among all else of great note that shall happen in music this year, 2008 marks the magnificent return to record of the legendary Bill Dixon: composer, trumpeter, teacher and all-around musical force. Dixon's pioneering work as a musician and organizer in the early 1960s helped lay the foundation for today's creative improvised music scene in New York and beyond. In 1964, he founded the all-star artists collective, the Jazz Composers' Guild, and produced and organized The October Revolution in Jazz, an unprecedented New York festival that helped put the so-called 'new thing' on the cultural map. A mentor to countless musicians, through both his teaching and his role as a producer for the Savoy label, Dixon turned his focus to education in the late 1960s, serving nearly 30 years on the faculty at the prestigious Bennington College, where he founded the historic Black Music Division in 1973. While he has never stopped composing (prolifically at that), and has produced a series of rarified small ensemble recordings from the '70s-'90s, his work for expanded, orchestral ensemble has gone unrecorded and/or unreleased since his momentous album Intents And Purposes (RCA, 1967). And now, this album -- a tour de force of orchestral composition, conduction and improvisational exploration -- fully composed by Bill Dixon and performed with The Bill Dixon Orchestra. 17 Musicians in Search of a Sound: Darfur was specially commissioned by Arts for Art, Inc. (producers of the Vision Festival)."

Artist: PARKER, WILLIAM
Title: Double Sunrise Over Neptune
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 047CD
"The third and final installment of AUM Fidelity's collaborative releases with Arts For Art, Inc. presenting specially commissioned works which made their debut at Vision Festival XII in June 2007. And it is William Parker's this time me a tell you IAIAH. An orchestral work featuring immensely gifted individual and collective voices from around the world, meshing as one to manifest a pair of deep bass groove-driven mantras. Featuring both Hamid Drake and Gerald Cleaver on drums (each tremendous masters of rhythm and sound), a full string section, full keyed-in young Shayna Dulberger on bass, and renowned Indian classical vocal master Sangeeta Bandyopadhyay (flown in from India for this auspicious occasion) singing William Parker's lyrics on one piece, and then the mantra 'Surya Pranam' and a Persian tarana on the other. This is serious (other) world teleportation music that achieves psychedelic proportions of sonic interplay. The world premiere of Double Sunrise Over Neptune took place on June 19, 2007, the opening night of Vision Festival XII. As there were technical difficulties in the live mix that affected the recording, the musicians reconvened the following afternoon to perform and record the piece a second time. The entirety of that afternoon performance is presented here, followed by the second half (equally wicked and technical-difficulties-free) of the premiere performance."

Artist: YAMAMOTO, ERI
Title: Duologue
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 048CD
"Eri Yamamoto moved to NYC from Japan a little over a decade ago. A classically-trained piano prodigy, she initially flew to NY just to visit her sister, but after hearing Tommy Flanagan perform in trio in Central Park, Eri had a momentous revelation that her future would be with jazz. On our first hearing her play, it was evident that her passion had been ignited, that her devotion to learning was pure, and that the musical gifts which would allow her to add to the stream of jazz beauty were plentiful. Duologue is Eri Yamamoto's first album as a leader outside of the piano trio format. Each piece was composed by her specifically with each duo partner in mind (Daniel Carter, William Parker, Hamid Drake, Federico Ughi) and each piece is informed and suffused by their respective musical/personal essences. Eri writes incredibly beautiful songs. Contemplative, jubilant, mesmerizing songs. Songs which we've found increasingly rewarding with each successive listen. Her improvisations within them, guided by the rhythm as much as the melody, are invitingly exploratory while remaining always in service to the song at hand. We're proud as ever to present this great work from an especially gifted new creative entity, in communion with already established masters of the form of music called 'beauty through sound.'"

Artist: YAMAMOTO TRIO, ERI
Title: Redwoods
Label: AUM FIDELITY
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: AUM 049CD
"Eri Yamamoto moved to NYC from Kyoto, Japan in 1995. A classically-trained piano prodigy, she initially came just for a visit, but after hearing Tommy Flanagan perform in trio in Central Park, Eri had a momentous revelation that her future would be with jazz music. She entered the prestigious jazz program at New School University and, following teacher Reggie Workman's advice to 'get a steady working gig,' she began playing regularly at the Avenue B Social Club in 1999, a popular spot among jazz musicians in the East Village at the time. It was there that she first met and then deeply impressed Matthew Shipp (who later brought her to his Blue Series/Thirsty Ear record her last trio album), and William Parker (who recently invited her into his Raining On The Moon ensemble -- she is featured on their recent Corn Meal Dance album.) Eri's growth as a jazz player and composer over the last 10 years is truly phenomenal. Having deeply impressed us last year, AUM Fidelity quickly recorded two albums with her in early 2008. The first was the exquisite Duologue, which featured her in duo with established masters of the music (William Parker, Hamid Drake, Daniel Carter). And now on Redwoods, featuring her regular working trio of longtime compatriots bassist David Ambrosio and drummer Ikuo Takeuchi, Eri's distinctly invigorating approach to the jazz trio and remarkable gift for indelible melodies reaches yet another track-for-track high. When she is not busy touring the world with her own group and/or with William Parker, the Eri Yamamoto Trio performs every weekend at Arthur's Tavern, a historic jazz club in New York's Greenwich Village."
