Basic Channel vinyl catalog, in stock for the first time! This is the first release from 1993. Basic Channel is one of the true "life-changing" labels of all time, any genre. Primarily made up of the duo of Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus -- the artist names on each release don't really matter -- but the trademark dub-void sounds represents a generation of sound development. Although inactive as a label for the past decade, the releases remain in in print. "The initial release of the label features a multi-layered distorted acid track. Ever ongoing modulations, extreme filtering and the combination with a reduced stompin groove creates a tune of extraordinary hypnotic power. The B-side features an energy maximizing mix by Jeff Mills with unbelievable dynamic depths. The third track on the EP is the pure, original acid bassline. Basic Reshape
features Basic Channel's very free takes of two of Carl Craig's projects that were originally released separately from each other on his own Planet E label. The Basic Reshape of 'The Climax' (which itself was originally released in 1991 on Retroactive) first appeared on the 2001 reissue of this milestone in Carl's work, is one of the most hypnotic and driving club tracks that Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald have produced in their 'post Basic Channel' period. 'Remake' Basic Reshape from 1994 relates to 'Remake Uno/Duo', Carl's sample-based re-interpretation of Manuel Göttschings epochal 'E2-E4'. Basic Channel take a radical, abstract, sample-free approach with a breathtaking slow motion groove under a multilayered sound sphere. This track also appeared on the Basic Channel CD."

CD, originally released 1995 in a plain cardboard envelope and later in a metal box was out of print for a while and is now being re-released in a convenient DigiPak. Rather abstract and ambient tracks like the classic 'Quadrant Dub I' or 'Lyot Remix' are on the track list. From today's perspective, in this open sound much of the later Rhythm & Sound imprint (as released on Rhythm & Sound:

) with its echo-heavy atmospheric density was already layed out here." Basic Channel is the mysterious Detroit/Berlin axis minimal techno label, most closely associated with the producer known as Maurizio. They've released a classic series of 12" records, and this CD compilation of material from those 12"s. The "artist" names on the various 12"s are obscure (Cyrus, Phylyps, q1.1, Quadrant, Octagon, Radiance, etc.), and an absolute minimal amount of information about the contents of these records is offered. Stylistically, Basic Channel creates their their own sub-genre of Detroit techno; slowly developing pulsations and abstractions with a heavy emphasis on post-dub processed crackles, blips & hiss -- extremely minimal, extremely gorgeous & some of the finest and most invigorating horizontal listening out there.

is the minimal techno production team and record label, composed of
Moritz Von Oswald

Mark Ernestus
, that originated in Berlin, Germany in 1993. They released a classic series of 9 iconic 12" records in the mid-'90s, and this CD compilation of material is taken from those 12"s. Featured here, on CD for the first time, are some of the most legendary electronic music tracks of all time: "Enforcement," "Phylyps Trak," "Inversion," "Octagon," "Octaedre," and "Phylyps Trak II/II." Stylistically, Basic Channel creates their own sub-genre of Detroit techno; slowly developing pulsations and abstractions with a heavy emphasis on post-dub processed crackles, blips and hiss -- the word "seminal" was invented for moments just like this.
