BFK 021EP
Optimus & Fabrizio Mammarella remixes. "Brennan Green/Stevie Kotey & Emperor Machine all on one EP. Green is considered family at Bear towers; we chose well with this remix as Optimus -- none other than Peter Herbert and Mat Anthony -- deliver a scorching club version that has been played on many a Saturday night by the Idjuts and label big-bear Mr. Kotey -- it's pure e-music. One the flipside Mr. Kotey presents Piston Fiston. this crazy inspired work that combines none other than Andrew Meecham (The Emperor Machine) on session musician duty. Then the Italian glamour boy Fabrizio Mammarella gets roped it to remix the parts created and deliver the first installment of the Piston Fiston project which sounds like 4 records in one."

Sooner or Later (feat. Chaz Jankel)

BFK 022EP
With 2 Chicken Lips mixes. "We don't know if he used his intimidating claws or offered a share of his best honey reserve but Ursus Maximus Steve Kotey managed to lure a true legend into his bear den to jam down and record this knock-out track: keyboardist Chas Jankel not only brought the funk into the barrier breaking cult band Ian Dury and the Blockheads but also pursued a successful solo career from the early '80s with his cover version of Quincy Jones' 'Ai No Corrida' reaching #14 in the charts. Kotey & Jankel together now laid down a totally blissed-out disco version of Giorgio Moroder's 'Sooner or Later' driven by super funky live drumming, a massive rolling piano hook by Chas -- who also contributes vocals -- and spine-shivering synth parts. To compliment this marriage made in heaven, the Chicken Lips are called in for remix duty and come up with vocal and instrumental takes in heavy Channel One roots rockers style: classic skanking drum'n'bass music."

Format:

Price:

BFK 024EP
"According to a friend from New York, Nick Chacona is into hugging, the Smurfs, biting people and feeling really guilty about it the next day, chewing his moustache, shaving his head, cleaning up cat piss, noodling disco, crying and sharing. Well, he forgot to mention that he's also been recording some of the finest house music to come out of NYC since 2001. His 'Angel Dust Swan Dive' on Bear Funk back in 2005 established him on the international scene but he's also recorded for labels as respected as Compost, Mood Music, Greyhound and 20:20 Vision. This release sees him delve deep into the guitar dub house that sits so sweetly on Bear Funk Gold, the regenerated id for a regenerated Bear Funk.
A Cambria Heights Affair/Lucidia
is sure to please."

DUBIOUS
Title:
Done Did It
Label:
BEAR FUNK (GERMANY)
Format:

Price:
$10.00

BFK 025EP
"Originally hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Jon Dacey a.k.a. Dubious began playing in scuzzy lo-fi noise punk bands at age seventeen. An obsession with 4-track cassette recording spawning his initial productions. Now residing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Dubious' interests in crazed dance music fuel his DJ sets and productions alike. Playing everything from drums, guitar, bass and keys, his take on left field disco house production is distinctly his own. Dubious's musical appetites bounce from wild cosmic rock to blazing acid house, he has few boundaries, yet he remains focused on the funk first and foremost. In addition to his debut on Bear Funk Gold he has also produced for Deep Freeze, Truffle, Loop: Recordings and on Prize (the label he founded). There's nothing dubious about this fella's music."

SALON DE L'HERBE
Title:
Let's Hold Hands/Mirage
Label:
BEAR FUNK (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BFK 026EP
"This hot collaboration between Stevie Kotey, Bear Funk Gold head bear, and Max Essa (the highly acclaimed 'Midnight Garden' EP on Bear Entertainment) sees Bear Funk Gold go into euphoric summery piano mode. The band name, Salon De L'Herbe is a new project for these two daddies of house (and ankle-biters!) inspired in name by the heady herbal smoke atmosphere of the Bear studios where the magical music is created. There's something of a wistful, better days color to the piano on 'Let's Hold Hands' and played at the right time could induce a few moments in those partial to sunsets and sunrises. 'Mirage' takes us into a more driving Balearic field with Essa's guitar layers floating over each other in symphonic harmony. Expect more delights on Bear Funk Gold from Salon De L'Herbe."

Love Sprinkle/Tits & Assets
Label:
BEAR FUNK (GERMANY)
Format:

Price:

Catalog #:
BFK 027EP
"Stevie Kotey makes another collaboration after the success of Kotey & Essa's Salon De L'Herbe project which has garnered praise far and wide for its summery euphoria. This time it's with Bear Funk Gold favorite and gentleman from Chieti, Italy, Mr. Fabrizio Mammarella. Fabrizio has been getting props and plays from across the globe after his releases
Mystery Guest/Tear Up
and
Triangle of Love/Allunaggio
on Bear Funk and Bear Funk Gold and numerous other European imprints including Tiny Sticks, Brontosaurus Recs and the now newly re-activated Hairy Claw. Things went a bit crazy when Ivan Smagghe included 'Tear Up' in his Fabric (#23) compilation, but he's kept his head down and his feet on the ground. Two tracks were written by Stevie and Chaz Jankel ('Sooner or Later') and have been tossed and rejigged by Stevie and Mamarella. And they've shown their respective skills to the the maximum. 'Love Sprinkle' is a cheeky splash of their musical love with guitar, bass and synth from Stevie and drums, percussion and more synths from Fabrizio. Up-tempo and riding their unique space funk horses, it's a crazy xylophone psych-out for the heads and the feet! The hook will stick! 'Tits & Assets' is more heads down and even trippier with the funk. Then there's the influence of Max Essa on guitar but it's pure Kotey and Mamarella for the end result."

Title:
Back2back/Angel Babe The Tin Man
Label:
BEAR FUNK (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BFK 028EP
"Sankt Göran from Gothenburg, Sweden is the next Nordic disco funkateer adopted by the ever-growing Bear Family. The wonderful 'Back2back' is a mildly paced, twisting boogie cut drenched in warm, balearic synth-cascades while 'Angel Babe The Tin Man' crosses a smokin' jazz-funk bass line with dramatic Italo-sounding synth fanfares and falls into an electronic boogie break part in the middle. Very strong debut!"
