The name Onra did not mean so much to us but that soon changed. Stores loved it, their customers even more so. After a few restocks, the supply dried up and we were all left wanting more. Cutting long stories short, it was a complete no-brainer when Onra himself approached us to inquire about interest in a reissue. In short, Chinoiseries is the finest instrumental, sample-heavy hip-hop beats album to hit the racks since J.Dilla's Donuts. Chopped into 32 segments, it hits the psych-folk grooves like a house party hosted by Finders Keepers and hits the funk button like Oh No's Oxperiment. Killer beats swathed in the magical hiss and crackle of the inspirational source materials, transporting you through time and space -- a massive album. Words from the artist: 'I started this project in August 2006 when I got back from a trip to Vietnam, the land of my grandparents. As a vinyl junky, I really couldn't come back to France without bringing back some wax. After hours spent riding on a motorbike through the Saigon streets, a taxi finally helped me find some Asian records. I almost felt like an explorer discovering forgotten treasure. I bought 30 vinyls, most in a poor condition, went back to the crib and started making beats with material that I wasn't used to.'"
