Title:
A Break In the Clouds
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 001EP
The first Border Community label release, from 2003. "The main mix is a genre-defying edit-frenzy, fusing an extended techy intro section with his trademark warm melodies and rumbling basslines revealing yet another side to his production skills. It builds into layers of fantastic rippling melodies, intensifying as the track progresses, before sweeping into the main breakdown which will leave you gasping for air. With the ambience tool its time to push the boundaries back yet further, with a dubby, druggy interpretation (featuring Holden on warbling electric guitar!) and as difficult to categorise as the main mix, equally at home in everything from a downtempo through prog to breaks set. For those DJs who feel its about time they did a little more to earn their extortionate fees than simply mixing the end of one track into the beginning of another, there is a melody a capella and a tough and techy beats tool tailor made for turntable wizardry."

Title:
Real
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 004EP
Back catalog from the highly touted Border Community label, as run by James Holden. Avus is Scott Edwards (Klang); 2003 release. "'Real' sees Border Community steering down a tech-ier track than previous releases, with twisted head-wrecking samples and an acid bassline to die for. A classic sounding tech-y bassline trip, 'Real' is enough of a journey to please the proggier DJs out there and is funky enough for everyone else. The original mix comes backed with the first remix from Border Community's star find Nathan Fake, whose 'Outhouse' track, the label's second release, put his name on the map as an exciting new young force in dance music. Nathan's interpretation of 'Real' is a slice of tough, techno-tinged mechanical computer funk which retains the acid bassline and epic feel of the original in true Nathan Fake style."

Six Songs EP
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
2x12"
Price:
$18.00
Catalog #:
BCR 005EP
"Introducing the
Six Songs EP
from Petter Nordkvist. 6 carefully selected album style tracks, in DJ friendly format on two pieces of vinyl. From the lush warm breaks of 'Tone Diary', as featured on James Holden's
Balance Compilation
, to the smooth ambience of 'My Pretty Guitar' (which we can guarantee will be the set opener for many of the worlds top progressive DJs). Then the fantastic click-house 'Dica Drive', the deep electro edged houser 'Left Turned', the bonkers acidic jackin houser 'Modern Eternity' which will no doubt appeal to a very wide range of jocks, to finally the string laden deep tech / prog crossover 'All Together'."

The Sky Was Pink
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 006EP
2004 release. "
The Sky Was Pink
showcases the more twisted side to Nathan Fake hinted at in previous releases in the form of the Casio rock of the Original Live Take, recorded live by Nathan in a single take of knob-twiddling and tweaking. Booted up to house speed, the Icelandic version is a DJ tool interpretation for the braver DJs out there. Fighting with Satoshi Tomiie for the title of Nathan Fake fan #1, James Holden provides a rework for the dancefloor on the reverse that remains true to Nathan's original epic psychedelic rock vibe. With a trippy bonus tool ending on a rolling, techy locked groove to top it all off, we are really spoiling you."

Title:
Do You Need Help
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 007EP
2004 release. "Young Scot Ewan Mackenzie aka Dextro is the latest talent to join the Border Community stable with the sun-kissed Air-esque lushness of 'Do You Need Help'. Dextro's varied repertoire of downtempo loveliness, edgy punk funk and broken beats was previously given an airing on a recent EP for the UK's Jumblefunk, and he can count none other than Ulrich Schnauss amongst his fans. A remix from the label's resident lunatics The MFA takes the beautiful original to the dancefloor, a 'new wave house' slice of fun from the Kompakt-approved daft duo who are currently turning the heads of people from all areas of the musical spectrum. To top it off there's yet another pair of tools from Border Community big boss man James Holden -- washes of layered noise and ambience to create a druggy breakdown, or use however else you see fit."

Title:
Soopertrack/Zu fuss
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 008EP
2005 release. "'Soopertrack' is a massive new A-side from Germany's ultra cool electro/electronica outfit Extrawelt that's crossing DJ boundaries with support from Clive Henry, John Digweed, Chris Fortier and James Holden. 'Zu Fuss' is slightly more minimal than 'Superfool'. It does all the right things in all the right places with its techno meets breaks edge and crisp production. Playlisted by Hawtin and co."

Gazebo/Gazelle
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 009EP
2004 release. "Canadian ex-pat technomeister Jake Fairley resurrects his sensitive alter-ego Fairmont with 'Gazebo'. 'Gazebo' begs for a billing as the upmarket brother to 'Outhouse', but the reality of it is a wonderful, lovable, naive moodlifter made for open air gigs. Gazelle's lush haunting chord progressions are made for those deeper moments, and it comes complete with a downtempo DJ friendly tool."

Drowning In a Sea of Love
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
BCR 010CD
"Straight out of the Norfolk countryside, 22 year old Nathan Fake is a most unlikely saviour of electronic music. His debut album
Drowning in a Sea of Love
is a truly enchanting collection of rocktronica at its finest -- loaded with Casio riffs, soaring fake-guitar lead lines, single live take recordings and a heap of lighters-in-the-air moments. Containing the original live take of the psychedelic epic 'The Sky Was Pink' (prior to its remix transformation into the electro anthem of last summer), this is a ballsy, gutsy eleven track wall of computer-noise, underlined by a rock-solid production ethic which belies Fake's tender years. Who needs a full band anyway? Homegrown UK talent like Nathan Fake doesn't come along every day, and it is little wonder that he is one of so many people's 'Tips for 2006': a true breath of fresh air in a dance scene desperately seeking direction."

Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 010EP
2006 release. "Border Community is without doubt one of the most influential dance labels of the past 2 years, having had 9 releases so far, all of which have been heavily supported literally by every major DJ in the book. One of the most up-coming artists from the label, Nathan Fake was born and brought up in Norfolk, England. He was at twenty-two years old, his first record
Outhouse
was released in late 2003 on Border Community. Since then he has also released on Saw Recordings and Traum Schallplatten. This 12" features 4 excellent remixes of his original tracks 'Charlies House', 'Long. Sunny', and 'You Are Here'. Remixers: Apparat, Vincent Oliver, Fairmont, Fortdax."

LAZY FAT PEOPLE
Title:
Big City/Dark Water
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 011EP
"The future micro-rave anthem 'Big City' is the debut release from Switzerland's Lazy Fat People -- a pair of accomplished DJs from Lausanne's Loft Electroclub. Already featured on James backed with the deadly edit-heavy DJ weapon 'Dark Water.' The Lazy Fat People's sound is both very 'now' and very refreshing, having that little something extra -- an ear for a catchy hook and a truly artful dancefloor arrangement -- which so much of the minimal genre is sadly lacking. This release features two solid DJ dancefloor tracks in 'Big City' and 'Dark Water', as well as the handy DJ tools included on many Border Community releases."

BCR 012EP
"Hailed by James Holden as one of the best producers of the last 5 years, Petter returns to the Border Community camp with another essential release. Keeping in uniform with his last release on BC, Petter provides another diverse collection of very, very cool tracks. The main track 'Some Polyphony' finds its home on the dancefloor and in every major DJ's box. The other side is a blend of jackin' rhythms, quirky sounds and lush pads."

"The long-awaited return of James Holden is over. He's back again on his own Border Community imprint with an outstanding collection of tracks that are so aurally satisfying, you'll understand just exactly why this record has been so outrageously anticipated. Since its inception in 2002 and now reaching the 14th release, Border Community just keeps on pushing new boundaries and artists. The label is the hottest provider of electronica on the planet, bar none, and has already had great success with acts like Petter, The MFA, Fairmont and Extrawelt."

MISSTRESS BARBARA
Title:
Barcelona
Label:
BORDER COMMUNITY (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 015EP
With 2 James Holden mixes. "In an era where the traditional genre boundaries of dance music are becoming increasingly blurred, it is entirely fitting that techno heroine Misstress Barbara should now find a second home in the Border Community. Given the Border Community's special relationship with the Catalan capital, A-side 'Barcelona' is aptly named indeed: joyful, lush, exuberant and hypnotic, it boasts real kicks and a crisp top end true to Barbara's techno roots -- and decidedly refreshing sounding to these ears. Most importantly, 'Barcelona' makes no apologies for being nice -- and why should it? Flipside 'Jamais Moi Sans Toi' actually began life as an alternative version of the A-side, but very soon took on a life and rather melancholic soul all of its very own: a real tearjerker to testify that Misstress Barbara is the lucky owner of a very special natural feel for melody of which most can only dream. Finally it falls to Border Community governor James Holden to transform the almost untouchable 'Barcelona' into the obligatory tool versions, adding the twisted glitchy 'Bass Tool,' and the equally twisted washes of melody of the 'Bell Dub' into the mix."

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 017CD
"Produced by 24-year old Nathan Fake, the title track taken from his critically-acclaimed
Drowning In A Sea Of Love
album. Sure to find favor with electronic DJs across the board, the release straddles the respective genres of techno, house and broken beat with ease. Featuring an assortment of live remixes from Nathan Fake himself, as well as a previously-unreleased track, the 12" also features a rare remix from Kieran Hebden's Four Tet project, which takes the title track into his inimitable world of broken beats and playful sampling. The artwork is, as with all Border Community releases, beautifully designed, featuring photography from Fake and his family. This CD single release also includes a video directed by Vincent Oliver (who was also responsible for Fake's spectacular tour visuals) and Udi Radomsky."

Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
BCR 018EP
Ricardo Tobar
showcases his sometimes warm and fuzzy, sometimes devastating style with
El Sunset
. "El Sunset" is a haunting spine-tingler, bearing witness to Mr Tobar's production finesse. "Made" is soaring, driving and euphoric, a slice of electronic-rock bombast that lovers of novelty genre names might well dub nu-gaze (or perhaps even nu-shoe?!). Finally, "Tickets" features cascades of heart-wrenching melodies, just pleading with you to flip back over and start listening all over again.

Coloured In Memory

The original mix skips along in triplet time while the other remixes take things into darker areas. Remixers include

CD
Price:

Catalog #:
BCR 020CD
This is the second full-length release by
Fairmont
(
Jacob Fairley
).
Coloured In Memory
is the best techno album since either
Vitalic
's
OK Cowboy
or
Agoria
's
Blossom
.
Coloured In Memory
manages to combine forward-thinking techno with the vitality of the best modern pop. From early releases on Traum, Echochord, Kompakt and Dumb, Fairmont's understated techno has enjoyed a loyal following and critical acclaim amongst the cognoscenti. When
Gazebo
was released on Border Community in December of 2005, it became an instant classic, encouraging Jake to give the Fairmont sound a bigger focus, stretching minimal techno into the pop format rather than the experimental. It is perhaps these less-classifiably techno, more deviant moments where the album shines -- most memorably in the demented-surf-rock-electro of "Bikini Atoll," the heroin-drone-trance of "I Need Medicine," the mellow folk-hop of "Calm Before The Storm" and the straight-ahead pop of "Times Fool." "Mobula" continues Fairmont's quest for the perfect melodic techno song, "All Good Things" furthers his catalog of electronic gems, and "Flight Of The Albatross" feels new and fresh when put up against the uninspired minimal tools dominating the techno scene at the moment. With enough dancefloor cuts to please the DJs and enough listening tracks to pacify everyone else,
Coloured In Memory
is destined to be regarded as one of the most impressive Border Community releases to date.

joins Border Community with the accomplished
Tuesday
EP, a musically ambitious 6-song selection of beautifully wonky modern electronic psychedelia. DJ-friendly, exuberant rave stompers rub shoulders with dubbed-out nu-Kraut and 8-bit bleeps to form a cohesive home listening experience. There's the twinkly music box trance of "Melody 120," the noisy schaffel-rave stomper of "Without Aim," and so much more.

The dancefloor mantra of "I Need Medicine" highlights
Fairmont
's vocal side, as featured on several intimate and personal
Coloured In Memory
album tracks. Canada-born, Germany-based minimal pioneer
Pan/Tone
(aka
Sid Le Rock
,
Gringo Grinder
) turns in a hypnotic slap-bass new wave groove, vocal-free but retaining an emo-techno feel.
Ricardo Tobar
's remix is a joyful, crunchy guitar stomp for bolder indie-electro dancefloors. Also features "Centre Of Gravity" -- wistful early-morning techno melancholy.
